I think this has the makings of a classic contest

Mayo have proven that they can beat Dublin - they should have beaten Dublin in the first game

Dublin did have control but then a few sloppy errors got Mayo back in the game and from there Mayo had the momentum

They were up there alongside Dublin in 2015 and certainly caused Dublin more problems than Kerry did

But they'll need to find their best performance of the year in order to have a chance

That's not as easy thing to do in an All Ireland final

Talk in Mayo is we are going to send up the U21's for the experience. No point fielding the seniors to get hammered by the mighty Dubs

Hard to see Mayo living with these Dublin panzers, but sure our lads will turn up and honour the fixture anyway.

I can see this being a very tight and enthralling game. Not a classic shoot-out but a ferocious contest all the same.

Where can Dublin win it?

Play their own game, keep Aidan O'Shea quiet and keep their heads and they should be fine. Expect Mayo to push up on Cluxton's kick-outs so kick it long and be prepared to come out 50/50 at midfield - Fenton will more than hold his own v Parsons and/or SOS.

Where can Mayo win it?

Pushing up on the kick-out is the obvious one, and simply must be done. This rattles Cluxton as seen again yesterday. Nobody does this better than Mayo anyway.
Get Kev McLoughlin and Diarmuid O'Connor to run themselves into the ground and have pace ready to replace them (not Alan Dillon).
Aidan will be needed both out the field and, when Mayo backs come out with the ball, in on the square. Mayo will need goals!
Do not leave Boyle on McMenamon.
I expect Mayo to be in the lead at some point in the last 20 minutes. They must go after Dublin at this point. This is where they've fallen down in the past, it's where Kerry fell down yesterday and it's where this game will be won and lost IMO.

Finally, the referee - I just hope the GAA get it right. It's never a semi-final ref so that's a start. It's unthinkable that it'll be our Joe again, and Kinsella has had his worse season to date. Deegan is the man for the job.

Dublin:

+) well balanced, skillful and well drilled... with stamina and determination to match.
-) prone to attacks of the jitters, with one or two players having a questionable temperament
Can they win? If they think on their feet, let their varied points of attack do the talking... they should win!

Mayo:

+) focused, battle hardened and eager competitors... who are more than capable of playing to their strengths, minimising their weaknesses and hammering the hammer
-) consistency rather than historical baggage is what costs them... and they, like Kerry, have a relative lack of pace that is a serious impediment!
Can they win? They have the skills to do serious damage; they have the desire and the nous for a dogged struggle. Yet, doubts persist about their being able to see it through for 70+ mins AND to keep Dublin on the back foot with pacy and varied attacks

They will be a lot sicker when Sam arrives in Castlebar on the 19 sept.

Match ups will be vital.
AOS will have to have the game of his life- will he?
Will Dublin have their homework done on A Moran?
I thought C O Connor was poor the last day but his free taking is vital.
What about the other Mayo forwards and can the contribute enough to the scoreboard?
If Andy Moran / AOS are marked and well held who steps up for Mayo?
Lots of ifs and buts about the game and I still give Mayo a chance BUT they must play for ( not 70 mins) around76 mins. Just look at the time Dublin got the winning scores at.

Mayo will need to look at 2012

They used a stop start strategy that day

Took all the momentum out of the game for Dublin

This should be a very short thread. Dublin posters expect a landslide victory. Mayo posters expect a humiliating defeat. Neutrals know Mayo don't do finals, so how many ways can you say the same thing. Time to move on and talk about how many Dubs will get All Stars, which of them will get player of the year, or what sports books might be out for Christmas.

Do Mayo posters really expect a humiliating defeat? I had a quick read of the Mayo Blog forum there and a lot (if not most) of the posters seem very confident.

If Dublin play at 60% they should win.. The two best teams in the country played yesterday.. Mayo are too reliant on Andy Moran and frees from Cillian O Connor.. Diarmiud o Connor has had one or two moents in the championship againnst lowere division teams.. As for the rest Gibbons, Regan etc not anywhere near the standard of the Dubs..If Dublin want to they could win by 10 plus..

No I think this one will go down to the wire

Mayo always lift themselves against Dublin

Dublin have needed goals to beta Mayo in recent years and it looks like they've dried up a bit

Although yesterday, Philly in the first half should have slipped a simple hand pass to Kev Mc for a palmed in open goal effort

Wise up a wee bit Philly, you took the wrong percentage there
