'There are tales of players being sent away by fortune tellers who were unable to read worn-out palms.'

I could read this man's writing all day long, sports, politics, arts whatever he wants to write about. A fantastic sharp-witted turn of phrase.

I find Billy Keane the most nauseating writer in the national sports pages. Incessant ramblings about Kerry football and Munster rugby are his food and drink.
And of course half the Dublin team are Kerrymen and the Mayo O'Sheas are Kerrymen and Jonny Sexton is a Kerryman............

A decent writer no doubt but not in the sports pages for me.

I can't stand his articles. HIs style of writing is a throwback to the 50s and 60s with all his oul shamroguery and forced metaphors.
He thinks the world revolves around Kerry and he can be quite biased. Most Dubs I know who read his article cannot stand him.

Hadn't read much of his stuff but checked out his piece on Steven Gerard from 2014 online and I thought he was excellent. I liked his writing style.
He cleverly weaves in Liverpudlian cultural references into his piece. Yeah..I'll read more of him.

Each to their own. I think he's a funny guy not taking himself too seriously. So what if he bangs on about Kerry too much. They're quite good at the auld football, I've heard, and he is from Kerry after all. Like a proud man talking about his children, why wouldn't he be biased about them?

Salvador when I was a boy there was a song that went
"Who can beat the Kingdom sweet for hits or hound or man " well
Billy's Dad was a believer and yes sons and daughters of Kerry have made huge contributions as in the Dubs you have mentioned theO Sheas not to mention Liam Kerins Donie Buckley Tomàs Ó Flaharta John Evans Micko Dwyer Paidí Ò Sè who spread the gospel beyond th boundries of the Kingdom Wish one of them would come our way.! But we did send them Beatrice mother of the O Sè dynasty. What is the secret of Kerry?
i wish I knew !!

Darragh isn't a great writer, fairly boring and doesn't really tell you anything new. I prefer Tomás in the Indo. I thought Darraghs article 'Tyrone want sympathy - Don't make me laugh' 4 days after Tyrone went out, sounded a bit petty. More than a few had written or spoken on the topic before Darragh got to it. But not all of them have admitted that Tyrone were such a thorn in their playing career. Sounded, to me, that he just wanted to get a dig in.

I agree, while I don't find Darragh's articles annoying, they're a bit 'run of the mill'. I definitely prefer the articles Tomás writes, they seem less fluffed up. While they do often contain stories and go on tangents, it feels more purposeful than Darragh's regular tendency to fling an anecdote in anywhere, to pad out the article.
