Who in the heck picks these All Star and Player of the Year awards?

Surely any selection committee with half a brain would have included Aidan O'Shea as a nominee for Footballer of the Year.

I wouldn't have included him in a whip round for a pot of tea never mind footballer of the year.

I'd take him on our team no problem, but his performances never came close to matching the plaudits. Good call from the selectors for once.

Aidan O Se is a very good player but in both All Ireland semi final games he was anonymous. People with will say he was double/triple teamed but that happens with alot of players eg Manus has that in every game and normally still kicks 3 points plus from play or from fouls against him for frees. If anyone should be disappointed it should be Ciaran Kilkenny he had a fantastic year and was consistent in every game

All Stars selection has long been a joke. I for one lost all interest when John Galvin was overlooked in 2010 for a nineteen year old who has never done anything very spectacular since and was replaced in most of the games his county played that year.

His goal against Donegal was an all time classic, beat the Mighty Neil McGee then exposed Mark McHugh in defence before beating a brilliant keeper. But he was isolated for too long against the Dubs - bad management calls has cost him an all-star and possibly the big one.

I accept he wasn't hugely influential against Dublin, but then when you think about it, mccaffrey didn't do a whole lot in his last 3 games either, and he is going to win the thing. Outside his block against mayo, he was probably outplayed by his man, Diarmuid O'Connor. He wasn't hugely involved against Kerry either - not really his fault, but you could say that about a lot of guys - AOS included. So it is probably a bit harsh that O'Shea doesn't get a nomination, but then how do you leave out the other two?

Personally, Id have omitted McMahon on account of his behaviour.

He won almost every ball that went near him, despite being marked by 3 men. He probably deserves a bit of slack. But you probably wont give it to him, mainly because he has a preened stubble and a dodgey haircut.

I agree with the posters above Aidan O'Shea rightly did not receive a nomination. He had a great game against Sligo and received man of the match that day. His goal against Donegal was top class but apart from that he was very disappointing in the big games this year.

In two big games against Mayo '13 n replay we've pickedO Shea out as a weak link and in them two games we've exploited that, imo no way should he even be up for an all star his direct opponent a corner back scored 1-2 off him ffs

i said it before, completely overhyped player (mind you nit his fault) and i was shot down. 1 point in two games from full forward against a qality team like Dublin is not near enough.No where near all star material never mind player of the year.

almost single handedly turned the Munster final against Kerry to level the game from 7 points down. Kerry couldn't get the ball past him, he scored the goal, created the points. A fantastic footballer, just playing for an unfashionable county.

Do he does not deserve a nomination for player of the year. He fizzled out as the year wore on. Lack of support and great marking job by Dublin helped. I don't see why people feel the need to gloat and run the lad down though which there usual "overrated" jibes.

Tell me this why did the Dublin backs including McMahon get such rave reviews in marking Aidan so? He is either a good player or not. Why all the plaudits if they only marked out an over rated player? Ye can't have it both way lads.
