McMahon awaits if he is to face charges

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The Dublin corner back is involved in a controversial incident during the closing stages of last Sunday's All-Ireland final and I agree with Dublin chairman Sean Shanley that it was more of an accidental contact with the face.

In an intense game like that, you can't avoid such accidents.

I expect Philly McMahon to get away with it.

Ya he'l get away with it all right, if he was from one of the other 31 counties he'd be done.
You could see him pinch/pull on stars eyelid. Throw in the headbutt incident and the feigning injury trying to get a lad sent off, there was also a biting incident s few years ago. McMahon is untouchable , But sure that's life.

Kingdom

He didn't head butt anyone. that's been proven by various clips, and wasn't even investigated

AOS did actually make contact with his face... again maybe he made the most of it, but sure I've watched a fair few Kerry lads over the years going down with "CRAMP" while being ahead in big games

Sure he's only a league player... wouldn't worry about it like a good kingdom boy

You'd swear that Donkey fella was a saint... big cynical mouth piece, punched ROC square in face, tripped Cluxton on way to take a free

If Philly has a case to answer then fair enough... he's denied that he set out to do it

So it's up to the powers that be

If they prove it, then he deserves his ban but don't be bringing up other things from the Mayo game when he had nothing to answer for...

Its time for CCC ,DRA to stand and be counted and to stop jumping on the Dublin bandwagon. As far as RED cards are concerned, are there different shades of red?

The thread is about McMahon and whether or not he's going to receive any sanction however you brought red cards in to it and I'm wondering what relevance it has to what is being discussed since McMahon didn't receive a red.

No red was given, but if you are suggesting that it should've been a red it should be proven first.
Anyhow, McMahon is expected to seek a hearing if he was indeed guilty of such act.

if you get banned for it in rugby even when you deny it, why not in football?

The bit that will infuriate people (who are looking to be infuriated) about any punishment McMahon is likely to get is that there is no mention of what kind of sanction eye-gouging carries in the rules of gaelic football. So even if they do "throw the book at him", all that's in the book is a Category 3 infraction, which carries a 1 game ban.

Philly is no Angel for sure. But let's try and forget about things he was never even charged with. The headbutt that never was ( footage showing clearly no contact and that AOS pulled Philly) the dive ( since footage shows there was contact however slight.

I will be very surprised if there is any sanction against him. He plays for Dublin not Tyrone after all.

If the lad gets a ban he gets a ban, so what he has met all of football targets for the season and those can't be taken from him.
He plays his football on the edge reminisent of McMenamin from my own counties team of 10 or 12 years ago and some days boys like that just get caught the wrong side of thet edge. But job done and a ban from a couple of Jan/Feb matches would be seen as no big deal by him or Dublin weighed against the prize won.

Philly McMahon, whatever happens him, has certainly managed to make a bit of a joke of the disciplinary process up until now. People are forgetting he had a few swipes at Colm Boyle during the penalty incident of the Mayo game on top of everything else which everyone is talking about. I'm not sure what everyone else thinks but it seems obvious to me that he's going to keep pushing the boundaries as long as he's let.

People might go on about the great player he has become, and the success he's made of his gym business which is fair enough but would anyone, even the Dubs defending him, do the things he's doing even if they could away with it. It's one thing to be committed and perhaps hurting a player in an accidental collision but it's far worse to be biting and eye-gouging and chalking it down to warfare and slippy conditions.
