Congratulations Mayo

They were superb in the second half. If they pushed up on Cluxton's kickouts they would have won it comfortably. A lesson to Dublin fans on the hill and elsewhere. You have no god given right to cockiness in croke park. 7 points up and they thought they had it won and rubbed it in. Also cheering every pass in the first half when two points up was questionable. The first half penalty was a foul outside the box therefore should not have been given and was the only thing putting any sort of daylight between the sides and with a typically mentally fragile Dublin team that was always a disadvantage.

I completely disagree about Mayo's tactics on the kick-outs. Many Dublin scores have come directly from Cluxton kick-outs. Two passes and the ball is over the bar, look at any Dublin game and you will see this. Mayo completely eliminated that risk with their tactics. They even profited on occasion robbing the Dublin corner-backs once or twice most notably for the equalizer. For me the tactic of the game was Mayo forcing Cluxton to go short.

Interesting take on it Former_Poster and it puts it in a different perspective I suppose. The Mayo midfield unit didn't get to exert their usual influence on the game however and possession is key. We could yet see Cluxton losing his place next year after the Fermanagh howler and again after today.

IMO if Mayo believed in themselves and backed themselves from the start today they would have beaten the vaunted Dubs out the gate. If they play next sat like they played in the last 10 min today then they will win. They got to believe in themselves however.

Agreed, I fear for them if they make the final cause of this lack on conviction. You have to love their spirit

What cockiness? Did you just invent this? A Meath man praising Mayo for how many scores from play? Back to your lego boy. What's it like to be a spectator after round 1 of the qualifers anyway?

What's the story with the Dubs booing Cillain O Connor after the game giving an interview? Seriously, have a bit of respect. No other county would do that.

I think most believe that he was the reason that Rory O'Carroll left the pitch and couldn't continue after needing 10 stitches.

I don't know if he was the culprit though myself and do not condone the booing in any way.

O'Connor's frees were excellent today. A couple of very tricky ones converted beautifully.

He also took a blatant dive on the Cusack stand side to win a free. It was up there with Cavanagh's best and in fairness to the Mayo fans in the lower Cusack, even they were calling for him to get up. A shane because he is a decent talent.

I believe its cos he was involved in an off the ball with The ROC which took him out of the game.

replay should be interesting , given the fact that quite a few of the top players wont be available through suspension or injury. possibly connolly , cooper, Mcmahon and ROC for Dublin and C. O' Connor, D. vaughan for Mayo. the CCCC will be busy

Never once have I agreed with a Kerry man more than just now. ( beating them out the gate is a stretch though ).

As a Limerick man I know all about moral victories. Apart for 10 minutes today Mayo were the same losers they have been in croke Park. No congratulations needed for that. Mayo left the game after them today no soft talk, not listening to BS from the Dubs. Heads down hard graft hit twice as hard next week and dont give up until the game is won. Finish the job, then keep the head down and beat Kerry then and only then can Mayo talk and then and only then should Mayo accept congratulations. Winners keep focus and high time Mayo were winners

I admit that I couldn't see them coming back after kev Mac's goal, they looked very blunt up to that. We've a fair bit of improving to do for the replay, won very few long kickouts, poor shooting and descision making up front. Did agreat job on aidan o se

I hope the CCCC have footage of this if it happened as you say. I lnew ROC was taken out but I heard a different name. If this was a Tyrone player having been taken out we'd never hear the end of it. I expect the CCCC to act here but if they don't then we won't moan about it. We'll move on to the replay. I heard Rory had to have a lot of stitches. Best of luck to him.
