It has been very noticeable on here, what is an open forum that certain articles such as the one on Keith Woods thoughts on GAA that may be critical of the GAA & in particular its hierarchy disappear very fast, makes you wonder. I remember before one of the rugby internationals in Croke Park K Wood was asked about hurling by Gabby Logan on BBC. He completely blanked her. I would take any criticism of the GAA by him with a large dose of salt. mod (Mayo) - Posts: 859 - 29/08/2015 21:35:58 1777851 Link 0 |
Its looks to me like he's speaking as someone involved with a club who just has a platform afforded to him not alot of others have. He is dead right really TBH. elvistheking (Galway) - Posts: 99 - 29/08/2015 21:58:38 1777857 Link 0 |

any time i ever heard keith wood being asked about hurling he spoke in the positive big time.its obvious that while hes a rugby man he has a gra for hurling.to suggest otherwise is just plain wrong. kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 505 - 30/08/2015 09:30:24 1777868 Link 0 |
Agreed Kavvie. When we won the football all ireland in 1998 Wood was full of praise for the quality of the football in that final. Like us all his views might be somewhat different now but from what I knowvof him he is a sportsman who appreciates quality in all sports. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1946 - 30/08/2015 11:33:49 1777889 Link 0 |
He has a point here, but I remember reading an article years ago about his hurling days, he reckoned his teammates in training were afraid of him. As if anyone would be, with his posh mucker voice flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 30/08/2015 11:50:32 1777896 Link 0 |
When he played u16 hurling for clare he was apporaching 16 stone. That would be frightening coming at you at that age. ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 693 - 30/08/2015 12:27:15 1777909 Link 0 |
A search of the BBC archives will confirm my observation. Shouldnt be too hard to find. There were only 5 rugby internationls in Croke Park. I was never a fan of his since that.Ronan O Gara was a much better ambassador for Ireland. In any event it was an inappropriate forum to be getting a dig at a competing sporting organisation. mod (Mayo) - Posts: 859 - 30/08/2015 12:30:36 1777912 Link 0 |

Keith Wood is 100% right! You could replace Smith O Briens with any club in Cork. Our fixtures are a complete joke. Well done to Keith Wood to pointing that out! bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 30/08/2015 13:31:21 1777931 Link 0 |

I don't know what substitute you have for a backbone zul10, but anyone that's afraid of a 16 stone rugby player doesn't belong on a hurling pitch flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 30/08/2015 14:09:56 1777943 Link 0 |

When 95% of the academy players come from private institutes of education and that can afford the best of everything and are always going to be looked at first for places on development squads and underage squads I think it's accurate enough to describe it as elitist. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 30/08/2015 16:35:02 1778056 Link 0 |
