The additional time is a joke in football and hurling. How is there any way that there was only 2 minutes of stoppages in the Kerry and Tyrone game. Bring in the hooter system. Change it because I'm fed up of listening to 1 or 2 mins when realistically there should be 6 or 7

I'd say Tyrone had fewer than 10 foot passes in the entire match. The game should be renamed Hand and foot ball. Technical ball kicking ability all but lost nowadays apart from Kerry who always kick pass to move the ball quickly. Delighted To see a "foot" ball team like Kerry in the final again

I'm in about 4 watsapp group texting away during the game were all saying "still time for Tyrone there should be at least 5 minutes injury time" next thing he puts up two minutes me phone went dead in one minute from everyone texting about two minutes injury time an absolute joke. Sure waiting on the hawk eye takes up a minute alone then Gooch is down for 2 minutes and then every other stoppage and they still come up with two minutes.

I take it you didn't watch Kerry's possession game when they went a few in front, nothing but lateral hand passing to take the sting out of the contest, they use it as much as any team, they ruined an AI final with it last year so I wouldn't be so delighted their back in the final, think you've been listening to Spillane too much.

It's not easy to foot pass through 14 players who have retreated back into their own half to prevent the opposition space. It's also very easy to hand pass the ball around to kill time in your own half when the opposition are camped inside their half of the field afraid to actually play open football. Negative win at all cost tactics are ruining Gaelic football.

don't think it would have made any difference today but certainly it's a problem and one that easily fixed
In second half the gooch injury, the Tyrone black card, the penalty and a knock to colm cavanagh probably used up 4/5 minutes alone
the other issue is that in the first half Donaghys point before half time was at least half a minute after the 2 minutes

Can't see why it would be a problem to have a hooter at all championship games but if it is use it from the quarters onwards with all games at Croker

Why should games have to have 5/6 minutes added on time when referees only give 1/2. What criteria do you think determines how to calculate injury time?

Hawkeye isnt for injuries so isn't injury time. Same with subs, they aren't included

Is there even such a thing as 'injury time'. My understanding was that the ref added 'extra time' and this was for any deliberate or incidental delay i.e. Stalling by a team or an injury but the problem is that this is at the referee's discretion. I think that maybe it should be taken out of his hands and monitored by a 'time keeper' who indicates additional time at the end of each half. You would need strict guidelines though; x per sub, x per dismissal, time stopped for injury etc. Agree though that there is nothing more frustrating when you are chasing a game with a heap of stoppages, trailing by a point ot two on 69 and the ref indicates 2 mins extra time. Crazy.

Never mind with your semantics lads...injury time ,etc........bottom line is its stoppage time and there isnt enough being added on...period.
There should be 35 minutes playing time each half. Aussie rules have a good system...independently officiated away from referree and blow hooter when game is over.Two minutes today was a joke,and just cos one poster says it didnt affect result...thats not the point.....and anyhow,it couldve .It would let refs concentrate on reffing.

well tyrone can only blame themselves for the delay caused by Gooch's injury. It was a stupid, reckless,needless foul. after the ball had gone. it deserved a straight red-card too.
However. I do agree that The ref never adds on enough "additional" time.

also the most blatant black card offense in the whole game occured in the final minute when Darran O' Sullivan rugby-tacked a Tyrone player but was not even spoken to. He wasalready on a yellow at that stage for a previous cynical body check.

the hooter system was agreed upon by delegates to congress but was then thrown out before it even started.
