Kerry & Mayo now only serious AI contenders left

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With Donegal going belly up against Donegal today and Mayo the best I've ever seen them against a shell shocked Sligo and with Kerry stepping up a gear last night against a good Cork side I think we are heading for a Kerry v Mayo showdown in late September.

Kerry should have a fairly straight passage to the final now with none of Fermanagh/Westmeath/Monaghan likely to trouble them. Similarly I don't see Mayo being unduly troubled by what lies ahead and should be poised to take Dublin again in the semi-final (should Dublin make it that far). Cork will regain their momentum against Kildare and should be a major force for the Dubs to grapple with in their quarter final and in what could be Dublin's first major test of the year I think they could come unstuck against the Rebels. Galway, Sligo & Tyrone just don't do it for me this year so my guess is a Kerry v Mayo final.

This could indeed be Mayo's year but to finally win I think they need someone to do them a favour by knocking our boys out as a Kerry v Mayo final will only go one way.

Sorry meant to say Donegal went belly up against Monaghan today. Sentiment still the same however ..... a Kerry/Mayo final.

Yeah, even Paddy Power agrees with that prediction, except for that fly in the ointment team sitting at 10/11. Other than that, you are spot on.

Dublin will have huge say and look the most likely winners of Sam to me at this stage. However, I do think the team with the best chance of stopping Dublin is Mayo. I'm not that impressed by Kerry - who look a very tense team so far. The fact that so many ex-Kerry players and fans feel the need to speak up for Kerry speaks volumes. Kerry fans would be very foolish to think they'll just stroll to the final. Furthermore, I have been impressed by the strides made by Tyrone - who are building a nice momentum and look a classy outfit. Tyrone in a semi-final against Kerry is still a distinct possibility and we all know - against Kerry - Tyrone won't back down baby! I'd love to know their secret in Mayo but Tyrone you have to admit have a habit of making Kerry get down on their knees in Croke Park! Killarney don't count. Thinking about it, this could be a Mayo v Tyrone final (time to contact my bookie), so don't go booking those hotel rooms just yet Kerry people.

I presume you mean forerunners for 2nd place, I'd throw Monaghan into that race after today and move Donegal down a few spots in the race, which is really hotting up now. Also Tyrone in the fray for 2nd best so that's quite a few teams competing for No 2.

Kerry should win handily enough. The first game in Killarney enabled to make the required adjustments to team.Team has better balance to now

Mayo won't get past the Quarter Final if they don't start defending properly.

IMO Mayo will sort their defence out. Mayo rarely have lost an AIF (with the odd exception against Kerry) because of a poor defence but have lost numerous AIF's because of inability of forwards (or generally one dependant forward) to take chances. All their forwards scored freely today and O'Shea in the edge of the square was a revelation. Mayo will deffo beat Dublin if they meet but have they it in them to oust Kerry??????

Current Tyrone team a pale shadow of earlier great Tyrone sides and would pose no threat to Kerry were they to meet. Monaghan will dine out on winning Anglo-Celt and won't be a Croke Park threat and Sligo, Fermanagh, Galway, Kildare and Westmeath just not good enough. Cork and Donegal may get a second wind (more likely Cork to do so than Donegal who look a tired outfit) but are not winning contenders now realistically.

Dubs to beat Cork, Mayo & Kerry to win AI 2015???? I don't think so!!!!

I wouldn't argue with that from what we've seen so far Kerry are never bet and Mayo look unstoppable very exciting August bank holiday coming up that should tell us more.

We haven't played a real team yet, maybe when we do, we can then talk about Dublin winning Sam Maguire in 2015. We are favs, but we're only at knock-out stage now.....let's see what happens?

Mayo conceded 4 goals across the 2 semi final matches in 2014.

in 2013 2 goals against the Dubs

In 2012 2 goals against Donegal

The issue with the team is most definitely with the concession of goals and there is no sign of this being sorted and certainly won't beat the Dubs defending like that and mightn't get that far.

A kerry poster starting a thread with the bottom line that kerry will win the all ireland. Some of ye down there must be losing your cuteness. There might be a few surprises yet and using language such as kerry won't be troubled on the way to the final by the likes of monaghan is risky.

The top 6 teams in the league were:
1. Dublin
2. Cork
3. Monaghan
4. Donegal
5. Mayo
6. Kerry

Kerry won the most difficult provincial final. They beat the league runners-up in a replay. Dublin and Mayo only had to beat lower league finalists while Monaghan beat 4th placed Donegal.

Outside of the top 6, Tyrone are the next beat team. 3 league draws suggest Tyrone were not all that far away. I can see Tyrone giving Monaghan a tough game in the quarter-final.

Agree that Tyrone could overturn Monaghan as can happen in any derby game but neither will overturn my beloved Kerry in semi-final

Anyone on here writing the Dubs off, at YOUR PERIL....Unlike Kerry we dont win games based on Referee's favouritism....some of the Refs calls on Sat night were incredible yet again...it just beggars belief....No we havent been tested yet but the extent of testing that Kerry have had is against Cork so lets not get carried away with them....they have a good panel, but no better than our own, we have an incredible bench let alone the starting 15, so beware Kerry !!!!
