Cavan vs Monaghan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Monaghan would be favourites for this but Cavan are at home and it looks like Drew Wylie and Darren Hughes might miss out.
What way do we see this one going? I think Cavan will give a spirited display but ultimately Monaghan should pull away with a 3-4 point win.

That's probably the general consensus. I feel Cavan will be well in the game with 10 minutes to go. It will be low scoring and tight. We could be a point or 2 up, we could be a point or 2 down.

But unfortunately, with this cavan team, that's seems an absolute world of difference! Having to chase a game means having to break away from the rigid system we play and I have yet to see (apart from Derry in 2013) that we are capable of doing this.

I do feel however that we have kept something up our sleeve during the league and we will cause Monaghan a few surprises.

Can't wait!

going into the match Monaghan are clear favourites but I have a sneaky feeling Cavan might pull it off.

Home advantage might just swing this game Cavans way.

Cavan have made solid progress over the last three years and I fancy them to have a good run in the Ulster Championship by reaching the final. Home advantage could swing this local derby in a low scoring game.

Lived in Cavan for many years growing up, so I'd love to see them pull this off. Unfortunately I just can't see them putting up a big enough score to do it. Monaghan had a good run in division one this year and that will stand to them. Hope I'm wrong, but I think Monaghan will pull away by 4-5 points in the end

Cavan could win this one, although any side with a Conor McManus deserves respect. Cavan by 2, looking forward to a real derby clash.

Hard to see anything here but a Cavan victory playing at home against a side severely weakened by injuries who they have beaten three times out the last four meetings. Huge pressure on Cavan to finally deliver on all the rich promise of successful U21 sides. Their match to lose. They sound very confident in the media all week also.Hopefully we put up a good show ahead of the qualifiers it being on the television and all !

You would have to favour Monaghan by 4-5 points but will get a tough game against their neighbours. Monaghan are on the go now for a few years and have the know-how and experience to win this match. If Cavan are to win, it is essential they get a good start and don't fall behind. If they fall behind and have to commit more men to attack, Monaghan will counter attack them. Whoever wins this match should make the final.

You'd imagine if Monaghan are serious about challenging Donegal in this year's Ulster final that they'll handle Cavan easily enough.

there was one point init 2 years ago. How much have Monaghan improved since the ?.
How much have Cavan improved since then, if at all (no givney, no Keating,No alan Clarke, Mackey about 50% , on the plus side we have Gearoid McKeirnan back. The last time Conor Mcmanus destroyed us. He could do the same again, better defenders than what we have have tried and failed to shackle him. Can't see our forwards getting much change out of the likes of Mone, the Wylies,Walshe,Corey etc.
we don't have anyone that can rack up 5,6,7,8 points a game. We don't score goals, so we are looking at a maximum score of about 11
points. This will not be good enough to win any games in the championship.

The start is all important if Monaghan get ahead they will not be caught if Cavan get ahead I think they might sneek it...
Strong ref is needed I'm sure Mcmanus will be in for some nice rough house tatics

Cavan have a very strong defense and a lively forward line. They might even edge monaghan at midfield.. I fancy them to put it up to monaghan at the weekend. But I dont think they will win. If they do, then it is a great add for the ulster championship.

Some of Cavan's younger players who have come through the U21 system need to step up now. And I think there is no better occasion to do so than against the annoying neighbours up the road. This should be a cracker. I am hoping that Liam McHale's more offensive thinking will give us a bit more up front and I am going for the Breffni boys by 2-3!!

I am very nervious about this game. Very hard to call. Missing two great men in Hughes & Wylie. Cavan are at home and are well up for it.

I'd say it will be low scoring, defensive systems in force.

If Cavan can tie up Conor McManus they have every chance. Easier said than done though. In the Ulster final last year Donegal managed to crowd him out and won comfortably enough in the end.

Expecting a really tough game on Sunday, but looking forward to it, I'm hoping we can live up to our expectations and win this one , but I am expecting a really tight game however I won't be surprised if we win by 6-7 , Hopefully we can stop the Cavan influence in players like Clarke.. Mackey .. Dunne all great players ,perfect match for the neutral and winner should be a shout for the Ulster final or even the winners, Can see McManus getting special attention but if he plays like he did in 2013 I'll be confident
Goodluck to Cavan see you all there,
Monaghan to win :)

@Lockjaw....Donegal managed to crowd out an unfit C.McManus last yr :)

Seriously, we have the better squad (talent/experience wise) and if they are all fit and perform to their best we will win by 3-5 points but when does that EVER happen in Ulster? It will be a close fought war of attrition and it will be the game folks were expecting last Sunday (low scoring and not very attractive for the neutral). I would not bet heavy on this game. A draw might be worth a tenner....
