Biggest Single score in an All Ireland Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Having a bit of a discussion with my mate from tyrone who insists canavan holds the record of biggest score in AI final with 11 points. I was wondering does anyone know of anyone who scored more pre 00's as records aren't great on wikipedia

Well the Great Jimmy Keaveney beats Canavan as far as I know. 2-6 against Armagh in 1977.

Whether or not that is the highest ever I do not know.

I assume we're talking football here because Eddie Keher and Nicky English both scored 2-11 (I think) in hurling finals.
Mikey Sheehy got 2-6 (I think, just going on memory here, Wifi is down) in 1979. So either way,no Canavan isn't the highest score. It's almost certainly the highest score from a losing player. Hard to believe Peter had to wait 8 years for another AI Final.

Are we talking total number of scores or the biggest combined score?

Yes, Jimmy Keavney & Mikey Sheehy both hit 2-6 which beat Frank Stockwell who had 2-5 I think, and of course the Bomber with his 3-2 :D

Jimmy Keavney & Mikey Sheehy both hit 2-6 which beat Frank Stockwell who had 2-5 (all from play), the Bomber with his 3-2 (also all from play) may be the only player to score three goals in a final and we also have Peter Canavan's 0-11 in 1995.

Biggest single score in an All-Ireland was a goal and that was achieved by numerous players over the years.

Scoring 5-04 out of 6-12 that's some going back in the early days!!
Then again you often hear of fellas getting 7 r 8 goals which they never scored.Given the GAA was already in existence over 40 years then I assume all that made up scores were taken out of the equation by then.
Also wasn't a goal worth more back then before changing to 3 points??

Sheehy and Keaveney both scored 2-06 in seventy minute finals . Both were free takers. Stockwell scored 2-05 from play in a sixty minute final . He also had a goal disallowed that day .
