An awful idea, September is the only month that we are guaranteed dry weather, how many games have been played in end July and August in thunderstorms, leave the finals for september, i was in Croke Park for the quarterfinals in August bank holiday and again in the semi, it was like 2 days in winter, no we would have better weather in winter. August is an awful time for finals, start club champ earlier, as it is most clubs only play around 25 games a year between league and champ and are still trying to finish them today, 8-9 months to play 25 games, it should take 6-7 months. Start club season 1st March and have 65-75% of League games played before 1st champ game for county team riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 01/11/2014 19:38:24 1668900 Link 0 |

I don't like the idea of the all ireland finals being played in August.I takes away a full month of massive exposure for the GAA. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 01/11/2014 21:06:30 1668930 Link 0 |
I'd be traditionalist enough about the finals. With the drive All-Ireland club finals in December, it's understandable that the inter county championships might have to be brought forward. What are the alternatives? legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7817 - 01/11/2014 21:21:36 1668935 Link 0 |

Why do they have to change the inter county scene to fit the club scene. hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 02/11/2014 10:35:01 1668959 Link 0 |
It's strange how this situation has raised it's head now in the first year of the sky deal, or am I being paronoid ? Would the sky bosses be tellin Liam o'neill that they would get more viewers if we had the finals before the premiership starts. I'm not a traditionalist in that I couldn't care less when the All-Ireland's are played, who really gives a monkeys once their own team makes the final, people get far too hung up over such stupid details. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 02/11/2014 11:50:20 1668979 Link 0 |
As if the winter wasn't long enough already, the biggest competitions finished in August would only make it worse. The GAA is a fairly unique organisation which makes fixture making an almost impossible task. Some dual players will play for 6-7 different teams and people will complain about burn-out, while his clubmate might only play for 1 team and will complain about how few games he plays each year. How is anybody going to solve a problem like that? Leave the championship finals in September but tighten up on club fixture making. A lot of Junior B finals take place around the country in November, changing the date of the All-Ireland will do nothing to correct that. Soma (UK) - Posts: 2630 - 02/11/2014 13:18:44 1668988 Link 0 |
