Limerick won one championship game this year and failed to get out of division 2 so probably deserve about 10

Allowing for the sarcasm Ban I take your point. However would anyone dispute that Hickey and McCarthy were 2 of the best backs in this years c ship and Dowling would easily be one of the best forwards. For me I think those 3 deserve an award

Is say hickey and Dowling will get one alright, maybe chin, two for cork, the rest between tipp and cats, depending on the final, bonner, hogan, reid and Callanan, o Dwyer for sure

disillusiondfan - reality is the impact of the All-Ireland final has a massive impact on the All-Star team.

Hickey and McCarthy were excellent this year and are in with a great chance, not sure you'd get 3.

I am not so sure Shano will get one. I think Hickey has been awesome, nothing short of it and the other one for me would be McCarthy who has been superb. The fact we conceded goals would go against him but when you have our paper weight half back line you will always be under pressure.

Completely biased but Hickey should be up for hurler of the year also. Between McGrath, Horgan, McGovern and Reid there was 3 points scored off him!!! No doubt it will go to Hogan or Callinan.

Hickey will get one or should anyway, however if Barrett has a good final he may well have a say. Dowling will be young hurler of the year but will he fail to get an all star?

Nash
Hickey/Barrett
JJ/Richie
Murphy
B Maher
B Hogan
P Maher
R Hogan
J Woodlock/Chin
TJ Reid
Bonner
C Fennelly
Bubbles
Seamie
Dowling

Realtmo that's a fair attempt at the team but all it takes is a John Power or a Noel McGrath to have the game of their lives and they will be in. Perfect example is Damien Quigley in 94. Hardly pucked a ball all Summer but ended up on the team based on getting 2-03 in the final. For what it's worth I don't think Dowling will get one but will get young hurler of the year

This year's All Stars will be harder to pick.Apart from the GK spot the rest are very hard to call. If Gleeson has a great final he could pip Nash but its a long shot.He would probably need a PJ Ryan like performance of 2009. I dont think any keeper this year has really stood out so Nash getting it is not a certainty.

Also for young hurler of the year Cathal Barret and Bubbles deserve a mention.

Depending on the final I think Bubbles might get it should he meet the criteria. He is 22 already so dunno if that counts.

Dowling has not been great in my view apart from free's where he has been unerring and running up some big scores.

He has only hit 3-08 from play out of his 4-36 where as JOD has 2-12 from play and IMO Dwyer has been the better performer even in general play throughout the year.

I'd give a mention too to Conor McDonald of Wexford. Serious performer this year.

If there was a transfer market in hurling He would be my first pick.

Dowling has 4-10 from play I think in 4 matches. If every forward had that you'd be a long way to winning matches. He is a cert for young hurler of the year

Mike our stat man in HS has this!!!

From play - championship hurling top scorer
Seamus Callanan, Tipperary 7-11 (32) 6.4avg
Conor McDonald, Wexford 5-10 (25) 4.16avg
PJ O'Connell, Antrim 4-12 (24)
Colin Fennelly, Kilkenny 2-16 (22) 4.4avg
Paul Shiels, Antrim 1-17 (20) 2.85avg
J O'Dwyer, Tipperary 2-12 (18) 3.6avg
TJ Reid, Kilkenny 3-8 (17) 4.25avg
Shane Dowling, Limerick 3-8 (17) 3.4avg
John McCusker, Down 1-14 (17) 5.66avg
Paul Morris, Wexford 1-14 (17) 2.83avg

However I dont think it will come down to that overall I think JOD has been more effective from play as Dowling.

This really is funny. God almighty, his average should be better having played a shocking Galway, worst Offaly team in memory and a spinelss Dublin.

John O'Dwyer is fine hurler but refrain from knocking Dowling who had the better of his his man all season. Watch his touch for the Breen goal against Wexford if you want to doubt his ability or his one handed point against KK. He is a super hurler and will be a super full forward for Limerick for many a year. They are different types of hurler anyway so no use making judgements on their ability.

He isn't U21

O'Dwyer isn't U21 so he could score 5-25 in the final. He still won't get young hurler of the year

Case in point. As i said allowing for the fact he is over 21 and allowing fr relatively similar average they are completely different hurlers.

Hoover bit harsh calling Galway shocking as they were beaten by KK and Tipp who both are now in all Ireland final. I have a feeling this is not a bad Galway bunch, they have won a a leinster title and very unlucky not to win all Ireland in 12, not knocking Limerick when I say this but they have achieved a step futher than Limerick in a way both have won provincial titles and Galway have reached an all Ireland in last few years.

Ban
Limerick beat Tipp at home, an All Ireland Finalist, and Wexford, who knocked out the reigning All Ireland Champions, so they won somewhat more that one championship game

therealtmo - I can't argue with most of your selections. But Brian Hogan? not in a million years. It would take a colossal performance from him in the final to make it.

I assume that three corner backs can be accommodated in the full-back line, as were three full-backs last year (McInerny, Kelly, McCarthy).

If so the 2014 All Stars will be:
1. Gleeson - Tipp
2. Barrett - Tipp
3. Hickey - Limerick
4. Tyrrell - KK
5. Pádraic Maher - Tipp
6. Brendan Maher - Tipp
7. Buckley - KK
8. Hogan - KK
9.
10. Bubbles - Tipp
11. Bonner - Tipp
12. TJ - KK
13. Fennelly - KK
14. Callanan - Tipp
15. Dowling - Limerick

POTY - Richie Hogan
YPOTY - Shane Dowling

I left no.9 blank because there are 5 players who could end up in that spot depending on performances or lack of performances in the final. These would be James Woodlock, Shane McGrath, Lee Chin, Padraig Walsh, James Ryan.

Your right - Limerick won 2 matches, I had forgotten about the Wexford game for probably obvious reasons.

I was a bit cranky responding to the post, I don't really get lads talking about the All-Star team before the All-Ireland final is played out cause the final has a massive influence on who finishes up on the team. But lads are entitled to talk about what ever they want, whenever - I guess its always nice to reflect on great performers at any stage of the Championship

As said before though, Limerick should have 2 on it
