Div 4 final - Tipp v Clare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Job done for both teams, it's all about promotion and that has been achieved. It will be interesting to see how both team treat the game, the fact that it's in croke Park will be a big motivation as neither team get the chance to play here very often. I can see a very small crowd in for it before the rossies and Cavan start making their way in. On the game it should be tight enough, apart from Waterford, clare were the team to give us our biggest challenge in the league (we lost to Wicklow playing a depleted team and dominated the game for 65 mins or so). The Clare game we won mainly because we got goals at the right times and were able to keep them at arms length. The big pitch should suit our style of play too. I see the Collins brothers are unavailable for Clare as they are training with the hurlers in Portugal

I feel Tipperary shoul try and win a trophy in Croke Park at senor level to follow on from minor suuccess. I wish both counties every success Clare winning Munster in 92 was brilliant it would be great to see Clare Limerick and Tipp really rattling Lerry and Cork up and seeing one on Tipp Clare and Limerick and Waterford too (There is some fine footballers in waterford) emerging as munster champs every couple of years. Where are that Tipp minor team at it was dissapointing that they didnt carry it through to U21.

Tipp Minor Football Winners 2011 ..... Where are they at

Where are that Tipp minor team of 2011 at it was dissapointing that they didnt carry it through to U21 this year. I know there was some plan for SAM in 2020. I like to see new teams emerging ..... are they going to make a break through . I know Limerick had a fantastic U21 team and brought it through to senior to some extent unfortunately they were unlucky not to make the break through at senior

Nothing game really. A nice run out in Croke Park as reward for promotion. Tipp might have an edge with the Collins brothers gone. I'd imagine Creedon's focus will now be on Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds.

Very big ask for those lads to win an U21 title on top of the minor to be fair. I'd settle for a Munster next year when a lot of them are still underage. Steven O'Brien and Michael Quinlivan are now established in the senior side and there are quite a few more in around the team as well. Unfortunately some will inevitably be lost to the hurlers along the way.

Few things up with our 21 team this year, Firstly only 5 I think this year are finished under 21 most of the team are still under 21 next year but we will be missing one or two of our most important players. Secondaly our club structure is nowhere near what cork or even kerrys would be like, id imagine most of their lads are with football clubs mainly where in the last 3 years the main focus would have been on football, we have a couple of players whos play with clubs where they would wouldnt even see a football unless they went out of the hurling and were still in football but it would never be trained. Stephen O'Brien who is now established with the seniors, his club doesnt even have a football team at any level as far as I know. Thirdly some of our lads just failed to show up on the night and management failed to act upon one or two problem areas. Cork were as much better than us as Roscommon were better than cork in the semi, Goals kept us in the game. Finally hurling is the priority if youre good enough, alot of our better players will end up giving hurling a go at least before falling back on football if not good enough.

Clare could easily upset Tipp here. Gary Brennan and David Tubridy are serious operators and Clare have an athletic outfit this year which Croke Park will suit. If they can dominate through Brennan in the middle and they minimise the Tipp goal threat they could come through.
on an aside it will be interesting to see how Cavan's defensive game holds up on a quicker field?

Decent underage set-up but no adult team worth talking about in that part of North Tipp. North board would be happy tolet football die entirely.

To be fair, Tipp aren't exactly lacking big athletic guys around the middle with Acheson, O'Brien, Hannigan and Fahy.

People go on about lower division finals being important due to both being promoted but if teams have any ambitions, they'll look to win at their level. Both teams should go all out for the win and use it as a springboard for their respective championship ambitions.

True. However I'm sure Creedon and the lads would swap a Tipp win over Limerick in the first round of Munster for a Division 4 title.

Does Steven O'Brien(Ballina) have a older brother Shane? There was Shane O'Brien from Ballina that plays club football and hurling in Clare.Plays hurling with Newmarket on Fergus and football with Doonbeg. Think he also represented Ireland in Aussie Rules too.

Not sure what the relationship is, possibly cousins. Definitely not brothers though. Lot of O'Brien's in North Tipp and East Clare- Brian Boru country!
