Kerry v Cavan minor football semi-final

(Oldest Posts First)

Cavan make their return to Croke Park on Sunday afternoon when they take on defending champions Kerry in the All-Ireland MFC semi-final. Can the Breffni County spring a huge upset or will the Kingdom stay on course for their fourth consecutive Tom Markham Cup?

We'll use this thread to discuss the game at HQ.

Admin it would be more in your line to stop the censorship of posts on HoganStand, it's funny how it's Kerry posters which get censored yet Dublin posters can say what they want about everyone else.

The censorship of reasonable posts should definitely stop.Cavan beat a good Galway team in the quarter-Final.Best of luck to them against Kerry.

It would not be just Kerry men in that regard. I have had a few myself and hard to fathom why but anyways.

I know, you go to the bother of writing a post and then nothing. I'm all for free speech and I don't mind people speaking their minds but allow to answer each other back for gods sake.

Anyway best of luck to both sets of minors on Sunday. Enjoy yer day lads and hopefully the kingdom will win.

Indeed and most of the posts that do vanish on me are usually detailed ones.

As for the game at the weekend I don't have much insight having only attended the Donegal v Antrim and Westmeath v Offaly minor games this year. I did think that side of the draw was the strong side of the draw with Tyrone and the eventual winners Derry in there. Saying that Antrim did not do much for the Donegal form but in truth Donegal fielded a very young team who did not handle the occasion that well especially in the first half.

I fully expected Galway to beat Cavan if I am honest especially with a player of the calibre of Evan Murphy available to Galway. To see Cavan win was a huge shock but then alot can come down to the day as shown when Derry just about snuck over the line against Sligo. All in all though you would have to think Kerry will win here esp with Clifford being available.

I can't really see there being much "censorship" on the Kerry v Cavan thread, somehow.

Has the 4 in a row minor been done before in football?

Didn't your own county do it in the late 90s?

No we won 1996 and 1997 and beaten by Tyrone in 1998. Beano McDonald going for 3 in a row.

In fairness it was good going for a small county. Like Offaly winning 3 all-ire minor hurling titles 1986, 87 and 89.

delighted for the lads, I feel as though they almost found themselves arriving in a semi final so in that regard they wouldn't have had their full focus on the last 4 or an all ireland!! This cavan team has an awful lot of character. they've ground out results this year and even against derry with some very bad luck they never gave in. so for the future that it a brilliant trait for them to have. plus there is some very good footballers there. but kerry at this level have massive experience and that will have been passed down from year to year via management and some of the players. plus they have Clifford. !!!!! So i do think Kerry will win it but i also think cavan have the players that will learn from the game and use it in the future

Best of luck to both teams tomorrow, great achievement to still be around at this stage of the competition for the young lads.

Fair play to TG4 who are showing this game as well.

Only getting around to saying it now but well done to the Cavan minors in staging that comeback midway through the second half. It would have been easy to drop the heads and get a bad beating. Minors don't often show such character. Bodes well for the future and i hope Cavan seniors eventually get 4 or 5 players from this team.
