Pat Spillane has given his thoughts on the comments from fellow RTE pundit Joe Brolly, calling Mayo "celebrity losers" ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland SFC final.

In his Sunday Independent column, Brolly described Dublin's opponents on the day as "spoiled, sponsored, mollycoddled blame-everybody-else brats", drawing a lot of attention - most of it being negative.

Speaking on the Independent.ie's 'Throw-In' podcast at the National Ploughing Championships in this week, Spillane revealed that he had been asked on countless occasions whether the controversial Derry man had come along with him to the event in Tullamore.

"The article that they're talking about, and Martin (Breheny) didn't like to say who called Mayo 'celebrity losers', but I'd like to put it on record who said it. It was my colleague on the Sunday Game Joe Brolly," said the eight-time All-Ireland winner.

"I've only been here about an hour today and I've heard about a thousand times 'Where's Brolly? Is Brolly with you today?'. Can I just state and record that he is not a friend of mine, never was and never will be - let's just get that right.

"Joe is a brilliant man. Joe is a barrister. If I said to Joe 'I'm sitting here in the ploughing championship in Tullamore' Joe would say 'No, I'm in Kilkenny'. If I said up, Joe would say down. For years I was saying northern football was the death of football and Joe was disagreeing with me. Now, who has come over as the great supporter that Ulster football is anti-football, it's Joe.

"I'll give you two little things about Joe. How do you know when Joe is talking rubbish? Very simple. The next time you're looking at your television and you're saying 'Spillane gave us a little hint'. How do you know when Joe is talking rubbish? His lips move. Actually, his hands do as well."
