GAA President launches Irish-language commentary option for All-Ireland finals

August 31, 2016

GAA President Aogan Ó Fearghail

RTÉ's Irish-language commentary service for the All-Ireland hurling and football finals is available on more platforms than ever before, with eir joining Saorview and Sky in providing the option just in time for the hurling final.

Launching the service in Croke Park with RTÉ's commentator Garry Mac Donncha, GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail said: "I welcome RTÉ's innovative approach to the Irish language in providing a choice between English and Irish commentary. The Irish language is a central part of the GAA's identity and it is heartening to see the sport and the language brought together in this manner."

Garry Mac Donncha will be joined in the commentary position on Sunday by former captain of the 1985 Offaly All-Ireland winning team Pat Fleury.
