McKaigue feels for Wee County

Derry captain Chrissy McKaigue empathizes with Louth following their six-day turnaround woes.

McKaigue sat out Saturday night's Qualifier clash at Owenbeg due to suspension as the Oak Leaf County defeated Louth six days after Colin Kelly's men had been beaten by Meath in the Leinster SFC.

"It's more of a reflection of the madness that exists with the whole structuring of the GAA county season, the way it's planned out," he told The Irish News.

"You nearly felt sorry for Louth last weekend there because it's absolute madness that they prepare all year for Championship football, and their Championship season is over in less than a week. It's benefitting nobody.

"The vast majority of teams have found themselves in that situation at some stage through the years and still the GAA hierarchy can't - or won't - find a solution. It is what it is, it'll obviously play into our hands to a certain extent but it can come back and bite you at the same time."
