Dublin manager Jim Gavin has heaped pressure on referee Joe McQuillian ahead of Sunday week's All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Mayo by suggesting his team get a raw deal from match officials.

When the counties met in the 2013 All-Ireland final (a game which McQuillan also took charge of), the free count was 32-12 in Mayo's favour, while Dublin were awarded only four frees in their All-Ireland quarter-final win over Fermanagh earlier this month.

In an interview with beanbagsports.com, Gavin complained: "No more so than the players, any referees or linesmen who are officiating these game are there on merit… 2013 was two years ago, a long time in football, but no matter what decisions go against us… I don't have the statistics but in most games it goes against us, the free count.

"But that's something we can't control. We've become accustomed to that now at this stage and we just get on with it."
