St Vincent's GAA club said a final farewell to courageous clubman Robert Kane.

St Vincent's GAA club yesterday said a final farewell to courageous clubman Robert Kane.

At his funeral mass in Our Lady of Consolation Church, Donneycarney, the Dublin firefighter was remembered as a man who had saved countless lives.

The Dublin Fire Brigade Pipe Band played music and representatives of Robert's beloved St Vincent's were on hand to pay their final respects to their former friend.

The club issued a statement paying tribute to Robert, who had been a member of the fire brigade since 1996:  "He had a quiet steel about him and, we think it's fair to say, would never back down or give up. He played a prominent role as that same group went on to win the Dublin Minor Football Championship in 1986."
