Conor McManus says Monaghan can't be getting carried away after their league semi-final performance against Dublin.

Having lost by eleven points to the same opposition at Clones seven days earlier, the Farney County came within a point of the holders in Sunday's clash at Croke Park.

Monaghan captain, McManus, who notched 0-8, points out that it's important to keep things in perspective:

"I suppose the biggest thing we have to realise is that this is league football," the Clontibret clubman notes in The Irish Times. "It's a whole different ball game going into the championship and that's probably the biggest thing we need to take out of this.

"Yes, we did compete but we have to realise that Dublin probably weren't at their best. We can still improve as well and that's more the aim now, because we have a tough game in the first round of the championship.

"They hit us for 1-2 or 1-3 early on when we played the previous week in the group. When Dublin get their tails up, they're hard to curtail. There probably is a lesson in that. We wanted to keep it tight and give ourselves a chance to win the game and we did that."
