Dublin stalwart Denis Bastick says he would like to end his intercounty career on a high.

The veteran midfielder missed out on the 2014 championship due to lack of match sharpness but decided to come back for one more fling in 2015. He's enjoyed an outstanding national league and has his sights set on a third All-Ireland medal:

"Last year was pretty disastrous injury-wise for myself," the 33-year-old told The Irish Daily Star. "I was fit towards the end of the championship but hadn't a lot of game time under my belt so it didn't put me in a good position to play any championship football for Dublin.

"In theory, you'd like to go out on a high and that wasn't the case. It was very disappointing, the semi-final last year. But I looked at myself and what I could bring to the team and I sat down with Jim. If he wanted me there was another things as well...

"So it was a case of if I can get back to top condition and feel that I can contribute to the team in any shape or form then that was what I wanted to do.

"Like most players, if you get yourself right or fit or in a good position, you're in with a chance to play. For me, things have gone well in the early part of the year in terms of injuries and fitness. It gives you a chance then - you're available for selection, which is a huge bonus."
