Croke Park is in the running to stage Conor McGregor's first world title defence - provided, of course, he defeats champion Jose Aldo in May.

The UFC world featherweight title will be up for grabs when McGregor challenges Brazilian Aldo in Las Vegas.

Should the Dubliner continue his winning streak, Croke Park Stadium Director Peter McKenna revealed to The Irish Daily Star that the home of the GAA could be the venue for a major homecoming event in Dublin.

"We are hoping for Conor to win and then he'd take a defence to Croke Park. We've had discussions to that effect with the UFC."

82,300 UFC fans could fit into Croke Park and McKenna added that any potential fight would have to be at "a reasonable time of year" weather-wise.
