Alan Brogan will wait until the new year before making a decision on his future in the sky blue jersey.

Speaking to The Irish Daily Star, the 2011 Footballer of the Year revealed he had been given extra time by Dublin manager Jim Gavin to decide what he wants to do.

"If you want to compete at that really top level, you have to give it everything.

"And because of that you have to sacrifice others things in your life and obviously I have a young family at this stage and another one on the way so that has to take precedence over everything else.

"Then, I suppose there is the physical and mental commitment of going training and slogging through those three or four months to get fit.

"As the years press on that gets a bit more difficult as well but look I would love to go on playing for Dublin forever but obviously other factors outside of football affect that.

"Going back next year, will I get into the team? Like, even though the form was pretty decent last year I am still 32 coming onto 33 now.

"There is no way I can do the training that a 23-year-old can do."

Brogan admitted that had Dublin got their hands on the Sam Maguire back in September the decision might have been made for him.

"You are always chasing the dream and any sports man chases the dream to end their career and if we had won it it probably would have made the decision a bit easier alright."
