Cork great Ger Cunningham has outlined his reasons for accepting the Dublin hurling manager job.
Speaking at the unveiling of his backroom team yesterday, Cunningham explained to The Irish Independent: "I got approached by Andy (Kettle) as to whether I'm be interested in considering the job, and once we spoke he made a big impression.
"But he didn't have to sell it, really. Dublin hurling is at a really competitive level and in reality it was an easy decision. I'm really looking forward to it."
Despite his football counterpart Jim Gavin's stance that combining both codes at inter-county level is not possible, Cunningham is eager to explore the possibility of talented youngsters such as Cormac Costello and Ciaran Kilkenny playing both football and hurling.
"With a degree of co-operation it's something that could be looked at. Dual is difficult, there's no doubt about that. You can see how difficult it is.
"But a lot of those Dublin guys have All-Ireland medals in football, it would be great to see them get All-Ireland medals in hurling.
"You'd love a situation where you could get those guys to play hurling if they could. That would be great but at the same time that is something we will consider as a backroom team when we get together and have a chat about it.
"Also, these guys are committed to football at the moment.
"It is probably difficult. Jim Gavin has said on record that he doesn't see it as a situation where people can do the two, so we'll see."
