Dubs' Spring Series double-headers in doubt for 2015

September 18, 2014

At the launch of the Dublin Spring Series as part of the Allianz National Leagues are Dublin footballer Ger Brennan and Dublin hurler John McCaffrey.

The 2015 Allianz League draft fixture list will make it extremely difficult for Dublin to arrange double-headers for their Spring Series.

The series, which has seen the capital's footballers and hurlers play the majority of their home Allianz League games on the same bill at Croke Park over the past four years, has not been helped after it emerged that March 7 is the only date when they are both due to play at home next season. The footballers are down to face Tyrone, while the hurlers are scheduled to play Cork.

Those games could yet be played as a double-header at Croke Park, but there is little or no room for manoeuvre regarding their other fixtures. However, last year's Spring Series went ahead without any double-headers with all four of Dublin's home football league games taking place at Jones' Road.

The Spring Series initiative, which has combined live musical entertainment with playing home league games at GAA headquarters, is seen as a valuable promotional tool within Dublin GAA circles and has regularly attracted crowds of over 25,000.
