Diarmuid Connolly's spectacular goal lit up last night's Dublin SFC second round clash between St. Vincent's and St. Sylvester's at Parnell Park.

Regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound footballer in the country at present, the Dublin attacker set off on one of his trademark solo runs from inside the opposition's half in the 13th minute before taking a return pass from Mossy Quinn and volleying the ball past the hapless Syls goalkeeper Damien McDonnell.

Connolly's wonder goal cancelled out Alan Foy's earlier major for Syls as the reigning All-Ireland club champions - who welcomed back county star Ger Brennan from injury - went on to lead by 1-7 to 1-5 at the break.

In the second half, Ciaran Dorney and Shane Carty added further goals to seal a 3-12 to 1-9 victory for the Marino men.

In last night's other second round action, goals in either half from Brendan Gallagher and Emmet O Conghaile propelled Lucan Sarsfields to a 2-12 to a 2-12 to 0-12 win over Raheny at Balgriffin, while Declan Donnelly hit 1-5 as St. Jude's cruised into the quarter-finals with a 1-13 to 0-6 defeat of Whitehall Colmcille at Parnell Park.
