TG4 All Ireland Senior Semi-Final
Saturday August 30th 2014, 3.15pm
Dublin v Galway

Venue: Cusack Park, Mullingar

(Extra time to be played if required)

Croke Park have just confirmed the venue and times for this Saturday's TG4 All Ireland semi-final

Following on from their respective quarter final victories last Saturday Dublin and Galway will go into battle at 3:15pm in Cusack Park, Mullingar at stake is a place in the 2014 All Ireland final on September 28th against either Cork or Armagh.

At senior level Dublin and Galway have only meet in the championship on two previous occasions.

In 2004 Galway took the Brendan Martin cup west of the Shannon for their first and only time defeating the Dubs in the decider by 3-08 (17) 0-11 (11). Galway returned to Croke Park the following year only to lose their crown to an emerging Cork side by 1-11 (14) to 0-08 (8).

Ten years on and remarkably seven of the team who won that historical final back in 2004 are still playing a prominent role for the Tribeswomen, Emer Flaherty, Ger Conneally, Aoibheann Daly, Annette Clarke, Lorna Joyce and Johanna Connolly all featured in Saturdays win over Monaghan while Edel Concannon was listed amongst the Galway substitutes.

In comparison just Cliodhna O'Connor and Lyndsey Davey lined out for Dublin in the 2004 All Ireland final while Siobhan McGrath, Denise Masterson and Sinead Aherne were members of the 2004 panel then managed by former Dublin GAA star, John O'Leary.

The two sides last championship meeting was back in 2011, Dublin who were  reigning All Ireland champions at the time dismissed the challenge of the Tribeswoman in an entertaining championship qualifier played in Birr, by 3-09 (18) to 2-06 (12).

Galway has enjoyed tremendous success at underage grades in recent times especially at minor level winning titles in 2010, 2013 and again this year. Indeed sisters Louise and Nicola Ward along with Olivia Divilly have been in superb form for Galway this season at both senior and minor grades.

Louise Ward was named as the TG4 Player of the Match on Saturday following her powerful performance against Monaghan which was an extraordinary feat as the young Kilkerrin / Clonberne star was being marshalled by Sharon Courtney.

Dublin too have emerging young stars with Leah Caffrey, Carla Rowe, Molly Lamb and Martha Byrne all enjoying success at U21 level this year.

Saturday's game will be televised live on TG4 with the Intermediate semi-final -Down v Leitrim preceding the senior game at 1.30pm.
