Bernard Brogan, new Board member with Aware, is welcomed by Alan Morris Chairman
Aware, the national depression support, education and information organisation, has announced that Dublin footballer and All-Star Bernard Brogan, has joined its Board of Directors.

As well as his knowledge and understanding of the relationship between sport and mental health, Bernard is a founding director of Legacy Consultants, a specialist sponsorship activation company and he will bring valuable marketing skills in his voluntary role on the Board. It is hoped that his involvement will highlight mental health and related issues to more young men across the country and encourage them to engage with Aware's extensive services.

Speaking about his involvement, Bernard said: "I'm genuinely pleased to be in a position to do some work with Aware and to use the experience and connections that I have to help them reach out to more people. The work they do throughout Dublin and the rest of the country is really fantastic and it's great to see a charity that is transparent, whose services are independently evaluated and based on clinical best practice, and most importantly one that is making a real difference in the lives of so many individuals and families nationwide."

Aware services include support groups in 45 locations nationwide; a loCall Support Line open 365 days a year (10am-10pm, 1890 303 302); Support Mail service ([email protected]); Beat the Blues, a free secondary schools awareness programme; Wellness@Work training and education programmes, and Life Skills programmes, based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) which are delivered free of charge to more than 1,000 people each year. More than 260,000 people visit the Aware website annually (www.aware.ie).
