Wexford have called on the GAA to switch this weekend's All-Ireland SHC double-header from Semple Stadium to Croke Park.

Sunday's action comprises Wexford V Limerick at 2pm followed by Tipperary V Dublin at 4:00 and demand for tickets on the banks of the Slaney is so high that Model County chiefs want the games moved to the capital.

According to a Tweet posted on the official Wexford GAA website yesterday, they have received an allocation of just 2,000 stand tickets but demand exceeds 5,000. Wexford have suspended ticket sales until tomorrow afternoon and have called on the GAA to either make more tickets available or switch the games to Croke Park.

Semple Stadium - Ireland's second-largest stadium - has hosted the quarter-finals with no problems in recent years but its capacity of 53,000 could be tested by this weekend's eagerly-anticipated fixtures.

Hurling fever has gripped Wexford in particular following their dramatic victories over Clare and Waterford and their County Board chairman Diarmuid Devereux tells The Irish Independent that Croke Park - which lies idle this weekend due to the cancellation of the Garth Brooks concerts - should be utilised:

"This isn't a blame game or anything like that from Wexford. We're not getting into that. I'm sure there will be thousands of extra supporters there because of the clamour for tickets anyway. But there is an empty stadium up the road that can give everybody a seat who wants to buy a seat. If you want to buy a seat you can buy a seat in Croke Park for €30.

"I just don't understand the logic. Why make 20,000 people stand when there is no need for it. They're not patrons, they're customers."
