Michael Murphy could be set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury in a club game at the weekend.

The Donegal captain was helped off the field during the closing stages of Glenswilly's All-County League clash with St. Michael's and is to undergo a scan at the Santry Sports Clinic this week to ascertain the extent of the damage. With Donegal manager Rory Gallagher looking on, Murphy had posted 1-4 in the 2-8 to 2-12 defeat to the Dunfanaghy men which leaves Glenswilly in deep relegation trouble.

"It doesn't look good," Glenswilly manager Michael Canning said of the Murphy injury in the Irish News.

"He'll definitely be out for next week [when Glenswilly take on Dungloe in the Donegal SFC], but hopefully it's not too serious. When you see that he can't even hobble over to the car it's worrying."

Murphy was troubled by an ankle injury earlier this year, but recovered to play in all of Donegal's championship games.
