UUJ 0-14
St Mary's 1-6

UUJ safely negotiated the challenge of St Mary's today to book their place in the semi-final stage of the Sigerson Cup.

Backed by a strong wind, the hosts opened the scoring through Ethan Rafferty while Paddy McBrearty (2 frees) and Kieran Hughes also got on the scoresheet before Ronan O'Neill opened St Mary's account with a converted free.

A hamstring injury brought Rafferty's participation to a premature end but, in the Armagh man's absence, UUJ built up a 0-7 to 0-2 interval lead.

St Mary's introduced Down's Jerome Johnston as a half-time substitute and he made his presence felt with a return of 1-2.

His goal threw the Falls Road outfit a lifeline with 10 minutes left on the clock but UUJ responded with points from Ronan McNamee, Conan Grugan and McBrearty (2) to seal the win.
