Donegal's Neil McGee

Neil McGee believes Donegal have more strength in depth now than at any time in the recent past.

The Tir Chonail men have made a sensational start to their national football league campaign and veteran defender McGee points to their strength in depth as a key asset going forward:

"It is well known when Jim was there we used probably 19 / 20 players and that was the core of the players that were used in the championship," he told The Irish Daily Star.

"Looking down through the squad now, if we can get 24 / 25 players competing for a place, that will be our big target coming into the summer. It is a positive the strength in depth that we have at the minute.

"That is what you want, to see the boys pushing on, the likes of Marty Reilly, Ryan McHugh, Eoin McHugh, and [Odhrán] MacNiallais, they have taken it on to another level, too.

"They all have great legs about them, they have pace. It is good to have that mixture of pace and strength around the team.

"Odhran is as talented a player as is in the country and once he gets into his stride - he is working really hard and he has bulked up - it's a real plus for us and it takes the pressure off the boys up there [in attack]."
