Manager Johnny Campbell was offering no excuses after Loughgiel's Ulster club SHC final defeat to Slaughtneil.

The 2012 All-Ireland champions were always chasing the game after being hit for an unanswered 2-3 in the opening nine minutes.

"It (Slaughtneil's fast start) definitely didn't catch us unawares - we didn't deal with it," Campbell told the Irish News.

"We knew it was coming, it was the exact same as 2013. They came out fast and we knew all about it having watching them the last two or three years. We just didn't do it on the day.

"Slowly, we edged our way back into the game but, to be fair, it would have been a travesty to them if we had come out of that game with anything."

He added: "The last time we played them, some of their players were teenagers, in their early twenties and stuff. That experience has stood to them. That is a massive club out there, the work they have done and the players they have, the togetherness and the spirit, it would take a good team to beat them."
