Eoghan Rua GAA clubman Gerry Bradley was working in Australia

The Eoghan Rua GAA club in Coleraine is mourning the tragic death of one of its members.

Twenty-seven-year-old Gerry Bradley from Portstewart and 24-year-old Joe McDermott from Omagh were killed while working on a construction site in Australia yesterday. The friends were crushed by a concrete slab that was being lifted off a truck in Perth.

A statement on the Eoghan Ruadh Facebook page read: "On behalf of the entire Eoghan Rua CLG community, we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the Bradley family - Gerard, Pat and John Paul, Gregory and Aoife - on the sudden and tragic loss of their son and brother Gerry."

JAXON Construction, the company carrying out the work on the multi-storey apartment development, offered its " "heartfelt thoughts and condolences" to the families of the young men, and closed its sites today as a mark of respect.

An investigation has been launched into how the tragic accident happened.
