Under 21 Championship: Our Under 21 footballers started their defence of their title on Sunday at Watty Graham Park. Despite the heavy rainfall the game was played on a fantastic playing surface. Glen had the breeze at their backs in the opening period and started the brighter with points from Paul Gunning, Ciaran McFaul, Danny Tallon and Conor Convery. Slaughtneil kept in touch however Glen were guilty of not converting their majority possession into scores. Half time Glen 0-07 Slaughtneil 0-05. The second half was also well contested and the visitors took advantage of the wind and were soon on level terms, and then proceeded to take the lead with ten minutes remaining. However this proved to be Slaughtneil's last score of the game as Tiarnan Flanagan kicked over a fine score to equalise and then Conor Convery pointed a free to leave Glen one clear. With the game in the balance Conor Glass latched onto a long ball, rounded the keeper to blast to the net. Midfield partner Ryan Dougan also got into the scoring act and found the net to put the game beyond reach and claim a deserved win for the home side. Final score Glen 2-11 Slaughtneil 0-10. Glen now play Bellaghy next weekend in Glen, date TBC. Keep an eye on the Glen website for confirmation.
