'Banty' for Derry?

Seamus McEnaney during his spell as Meath manager

Seamus McEnaney has emerged as the favourite to fill the vacant Derry football manager's job.

The deadline for nominations passed on Monday and the former Monaghan and Meath manager's name is believed to be in the mix. According to the Irish News, 'Banty' is one of only a handful to have expressed an interest in succeeding Brian McIver, who stepped down after Derry were knocked out of the championship by Galway last month.

The newspaper claims that 1993 All-Ireland winners Henry and Seamus Downey, Enda Gormley and Anthony Tohill, along with Tony McEntee and Peter Doherty, have ruled themselves out of contention.
