Donnelly not getting carried away

Good win for Seneschalstown

Lavey manager Jude Donnelly has stressed that beating the defending champions Slaughtneil in the opening round of the SFC counts for very little.

Despite hailing the victory, Donnelly stressed to the County Derry Post that it was just the first round and there was still a lot of football to be played.

"This is just a first round, it means nothing. Funnily I fancied the Loup after they gave us an awful drubbing in the league. It'll be a tough task. I think they beat use by 13 or 14 points."

Slaughtneil manager John Joe Kearney admitted that the hungrier side won on the day.

"Lavey probably played with more hunger. They wanted to win that game and I suppose they deserved to win it at the end of the day. Having said that, we leaked three goals, one of them a penalty. It's hard to win matches when you give away three goals."
