Under 14 Hurling
U14 Hurlers Reach All Ireland Final
Our under hurlers had a memorable weekend at the All Ireland Feile na nGael. The weekend started with a hard fought victory over Slaughtneil.  This was followed up by an excellent team performance against Trim. With solid displays all over the pitch a nine point victory was secured. On Saturday morning Screen had a terrific battle with the visiting team from Garryspillane, Co. Limerick. Garyspillane needed to win to advance to the cup and we needed to win to top the group. An excellent defensive performance and some brilliant saves from goalkeeper Jake Donnelly helped Screen to a one point win. This set up a quarter final against Silvermines of Tipperary. A big crowd gathered at Dean McGlinchey Park for the game and were treated to another gutsy performance from the home team. Skilful hurling and a never say die attitude helped propel the Screen into an All-Ireland semi final. Sunday saw Bredagh provide the opposition in the semi-final at Owenbeg. Screen went behind to an early goal but immediately took control of the game. They held Bredagh scoreless for the rest of the match and ran out comprehensive winners.  A big crowd of Ballinascreen supporters braved the wind and rain to cheer on their team in the final against Dungannon. Screen began the match playing with a strong wind and fell behind quickly to an opportunist goal. A Mark Farrelly goal and some fine freetaking from Shane Grant helped build up a three point lead at half time.  In the second half Screen fought bravely, but were unable to hold out against the bigger Dungannon team. The Tyrone lads ran out winners by five points. It was a disappointing end to the weekend. When the Screen players reflect on the weekend as a whole they will realise that they did themselves proud. The large Screen support applauded their young stars after the match and congratulated them on representing their club with skill and heart. Overall the Feile weekend was a huge success both on and off the field.  Thanks must be extended to the organising committee and the volunteers who helped out on Friday and Saturday; and the supporters, who turned out in large numbers all weekend, provided great encouragement for the players. A big thank you must be given to the parents of the players for preparing their sons for a hectic weekend's hurling and for hosting our visitors from Garryspillane.
U16 Hurling

St Colm's GAA were part of the Glór na nGael competition for clubs throughout the country who are trying to promote Irish language. 250 euro was won as part of this, however the most important thing about this was the recognition that we received for our efforts to date. The prize will be presented in the club house on Monday the 6th of July at 7 o clock and everyone is welcome.
