Glen2Glen Cycle: On Sunday 13th September 2015 we plan to replicate the success of 2013 and have another Glen2Glen Cycle, this time starting in Glen and finishing in Glen after a tour of South Derry. Our chosen charities this year are both local and very worthy - The Fort Centre (Riding School for the Disabled) and Charis Integrated Cancer Care. There will be two registration nights Friday 26th June and Friday 10th July. Registration costs £20 which will cover the cost of a specially commissioned jersey. Each cyclist is asked to raise a minimum of £150 sponsorship. After donations to both charities all the funds will be assigned to the provision of new floodlights for the top playing pitch.
Senior Football: The senior football game v Newbridge that was planned for Monday 22nd was postponed and will be played on Sunday 28th June.
Camogie: Glen hosted Mungret's, St Paul's from Limerick for the Feile this weekend. The team arrived at Watty Graham's park about 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon. The first game was against neighbours Lavey and unfortunately we came up short despite a great effort from the girls. We then played the Clare team being hosted by Lavey, Inagh-Kilnamona but were defeated by just 4 points. After the games the girls went back to the club for refreshments before heading to Lavey to take part in the parade involving the local clubs and their visiting teams. The girls all enjoyed the craic and the chance to get to know the Limerick girls. It was back to the pitch in the morning for us to play our visitors. This was a great game and both sides showed great skill and determination. Our girls went on to win the game by 4 points with a fine display of camogie. It was back on to the bus again to go to Bellaghy for the quarter final of the shield competition, our opponents being Blarney from Cork. They proved too strong for our young team but the girl's effort couldn't have been better. Mungret's also lost at this stage of the competition. The Limerick girls then had some time to spend with their host families before meeting back at the club for food and a much anticipated disco which was enjoyed by all. This was a great experience from girls and no doubt friendships formed that may last a lifetime. The girls were a credit to their families and to the club and hopefully it was a weekend they will remember fondly for a long time to come. Thanks to Feile officer, Movita Gallagher who did all the organising with St Paul's, thanks also to the parents of our girls who hosted, thanks to JJ McKenna for having the pitches in immaculate condition and we cannot forget all those who worked hard at the pitch over the 2 days, making tea, coffee, sandwiches etc for everyone. This was a good team effort but the biggest thanks must go to the players and management, Movita Gallagher, Sean Gunning and Frances McCabe, who gave us such an enjoyable weekend.
