Holders Ballinderry and Coleraine are the first two teams through to the semi-finals of the Derry SFC.

The four-in-a-row chasing Shamrocks were forced to come from six points down to avoid a shock defeat to Lavey on Friday night. The signs looked ominous for the champions when goals from Cailean O'Boyle and Niall Toner helped Lavey to a 2-7 to 0-7 late in the first half.

But Ballinderry, who had reduced the deficit to two points, 0-9 to 2-7, at the break, fought back in the second half with a James Bateson goal and a Ryan Bell injury-time point giving them a 1-15 to 2-11 win.

In the second of the quarter-finals on Saturday night, Colm McGoldrick shot 1-5 as a rejuvenated Coleraine powered to a 1-15 to 0-11 victory over Magherafelt.

The other two quarter-finals - Kilrea v Slaughtneil and Dungiven v Glenullin - will take place next weekend.

Meanwhile, Kevin Lynch's and Slaughtneil will contest the Derry SHC final after beating Swatragh and Ballinascreen respectively.
