Senior Football: The seniors completed their 2014 league fixtures on Sunday afternoon with a home tie against Ogra Colmcille. Ogra were severely depleted however they battled manfully to the end. The result was never in doubt with first half goals from Mark O'Donnell and Emmett Bradley and points from Seannie McGroggan, Mark O'Donnell, Ciaran McFaul, John McCamley and Stevie O'Hara. Half time score Glen 2-11 Ogra 0-04. The second half continued in similar vein with further majors from Mark O'Donnell, Ryan Winton, Michael Warnock and Oisin Hegarty. Final score Glen 7-20 Ogra Colmcille 0-06. With the league concluded Glen are automatically promoted and crowned champions. Despite several requests, disappointingly no official was available to present the league trophy. The focus now shifts to championship and Glen have been drawn against Castledawson in the quarter finals. The game will take place on Saturday, 3.30pm in Celtic Park. Please get along and show your support.

Reserve Championship: The senior reserve panel travelled to Greenlough last Wednesday night to take on the hosts in the quarter final of the intermediate reserve championship. Despite our lads winning the league game by a large margin some six weeks ago they knew they would be in a battle against a good and determined Greenlough side. It was our lads who started the game the better and two points had been registered in the opening couple of minutes, however Greenlough put their sweeper in place and with willing overlapping runners they then scored a point, a good goal and another point to take a three point lead with ten minutes gone. However the Watty's never dropped the heads and then scored the next three points to tie up the scores midway through the half. As the game settled down after the breathtaking start the defenses were on top and the deadlock wasn't broken until nearly ten minutes later with Glen taking the lead with another point. Before half time Greenlough managed to level the scores through a pointed free and just before the blow of the whistle they scored their second goal with a number of the Watty's heads seemingly already in the changing rooms! Half Time Score: Glen 0-06 Greenlough 2-03. After a calm chat at half time and the realisation that they hadn't played well Glen showed determination from the off to cut into the hosts lead and two points were scored in the opening few minutes. Colm Sargent then entered the fray in place of Paul Gunning.

Five minutes later Greenlough were to get the rub of the green when their forward took a shot for a point some twenty five metres out but scuffed it and a couple of our defenders and goalkeeper were caught out by the flight of the ball and it went into the back of the net! Ciaran McCloy then replaced Gerard McKenna. Now four points down the lads kept trying and got a point to reduce the deficit to three and the game was still well in the balance. Then came sucker punch number two when our kick-out was gifted to a Greenlough forward and after a debatable number of steps in his solo run he finished low and hard to the bottom corner of our net. Six points down with less than 15 minutes to go and it was looking like Greenlough were going to progress. However this bunch of lads doesn't do lying down and they soon got the next point of the game but this was cancelled out from another Greenlough free. Ben McGuckin then replaced the injured Sean Gribbon who had a fine game. Still the Wattys battled to rescue the game but with just seven minutes on the clock time was definitely against them - two pointed free kicks reduced the deficit to four points with normal time nearly up and then came the lifeline! A trademark flowing move cut through the Greenlough rearguard and with quick hand passing taking rushing defenders and the goalkeeper out of the play the ball was palmed to the back of the net by Aodhan McGrath! Game on and into injury time a point was needed! The Greenlough goalkeeper then tried a short kick out but this was intercepted by Connlan Bradley and he dispatched the ball over the bar to level the game. Tommy McCloy then caught the next three Greenlough kick-outs cleanly and in one of these attacks Glen were awarded a free kick about 45m out. Connlan stepped up and although his effort fell short Ryan Winton was the quickest to react and he unorthodoxly managed to get the ball over the bar to send Glen into the lead! Tensions were high and after some handbags Greenlough were awarded a free kick about 50m out but out near the sideline. That effort for a point fell short in around the Glen goal and after a scramble a Greenlough effort for a point was blocked out for a 45. The 45 attempt to level the game hit the right hand post and after another scramble the Glen defense emerged with the ball and the final whistle was finally blown!! Full Time Score: Glen 1-14 Greenlough 4-04. A remarkable turnaround in such a short space of time to go and win the game however the lads know the get out of jail card was played. The Greenlough lads no doubt were severely disappointed but credit to them for playing their part in such a tough and entertaining game (at least for the spectators) and putting us to the pin of our collar - hopefully it will stand to our lads going forward. Team & Scorers: Gerard McKenna, Odhran Glass, Conor Gallagher, Brendan O'Kane, Declan Brolly, Johnny Glass, Sean Gribbon, Tommy McCloy, Connlan Bradley (0-03), Ryan Bradley, Cahir McCabe (0-03), Paul Gunning, Ryan Winton (0-03), Aodhan McGrath (1-02), Conor Convery (0-03). Subs: Colm Sargent for Paul Gunning,

Ciaran McCloy for Gerard McKenna, Ben McGuckin for Sean Gribbon, Kevin Brolly, Niall Mallon, Kevin McErlean, Dominic Carville, Johnny Bradley. The lads now progress to the semi finals stages and are on their travels once again, this time a journey to Slaughtmanus. The game will take place on Wednesday night (27 August) at 7:15pm. All support would be appreciated for what will be another tough test.

Under 16 Championship: The U16's took on Coleraine in the second round of the championship on Thursday night. A tough game was anticipated as we had lost the league encounter earlier in the season. However Glen opened strongly with an Andrew Ferguson goal and built on this with further goals by Tiernan McCusker to go ahead by nine points at half time. The second half was an even affair but the lads worked extremely hard to stay in front to the end on a scoreline of 5-8 to 2-10. Once again teamwork was the reason for victory rather than any individual displays. They now play Slaughtmanus in the quarter final on Thursday evening so all support welcome for the boys. Team: Caolan Convery, Caolan Bradley, Dylan McAleer, Caolan Wallace, Jack McGilligan, Aidan Hughes, Oran McGill, Tiernan McCusker, Niall Gallagher, Dara Higgins, Cathan Murray, Jack Gunning and Andrew Ferguson. Subs Eunan Mulholland, Eoghan Young and Conleth McGuckin.

Camogie: The Under 10 Camogs took part in Cargin's annual tournament on Saturday. They played five games in the league section beating Creggan, Carnlough and Loughguile but Slaughtneil beat us by a goal as did Bellaghy.  This meant they were into the semi-final of the shield competition where they played Castledawson. This was a very exciting game and the sides were level at full time.  Our girls then got the vital score to get them through to the final.  This was to be a rematch of one of the league games when we beat Creggan but the girls were feeling the effects of the extra time in the semi and came up just short in the final losing by just two points. Well done to all our girls who gave their all throughout the day.  They were a credit to our club and the stars of the future.
