McCloy showing signs of improvement

Former Derry All-Star full-back Kevin McCloy has regained consciousness and has spoken to members of his family.

The 35-year-old collapsed 11 minutes into Lavey's Derry SFC clash against Magherafely at Owenbeg on Wednesday evening.

He was treated by paramedics on the pitch before being taken to Altnagelvin Hospital where he is believed to have regained consciousness.

Derry Now reports that McCloy has spoken to members of his family who are by his bedside.

A statement issued by the family reads: "Kevin is stable and his condition is continuing to improve.

"Whilst receiving care and attention at Altnagelvin Hospital, where his progress is being monitored. Kevin's wife Cathy and family are very thankful and happy for the care and attention he has been receiving.

"The family is very thankful for those who attended to Kevin on Wednesday night at Owenbeg football grounds. 

"We would also like to thank all those who have sent good wishes and prayers. At this time the family request that their privacy is respected."

Lavey GAA club tweeted: 'Lavey GAA welcome the news that our senior football club captain, Kevin McCloy, is showing signs of improvement'.
