The senior team travelled to Claudy on Sunday for their final away game in the league and took the two points in a tough but fair encounter on a final score of 1-15 to 0-13. With the main pitch waterlogged the game was moved to the host club's training ground and although both teams struggled with the tightness of the smaller pitch it was good to get the game played before the next round of the championship. The team showed two changes from the last game with Danny Devlin and Ordhan Mullan coming into the starting line up to replace the injured Ciaran Lavery and Ruari Shivers. The defensive system adopted by the opposition smothered any open running football so long range points were the order of the day and the team didn't disappoint with Niall McNicholl scoring six to show the way. The goal twenty minutes into the first half was text book stuff, a fantastic long ball from captain Paddy Henry delivered right to the inform full forward Martin Heaney and with a little flick the ball was in the net, classic!
Aidan Keenan moved from the corner to the half forward line and was a revelation in this position; on hand for the kick outs, laying off the good ball and joining in the attack with two superb points , showing tremendous work rate throughout and giving his best performance of the season, a joy to watch. Other outstanding displays came from Ronan O'Kane, Micky Hicks and Kieran O'Kane in defence and Niall McNicholl and Martin Heaney up front but supporter's man of the match goes to Aidan Keenan.
Team: Neil O'Kane, Ronan O'Kane, Danny Devlin, Niall Kennan, Micky Hicks, Kieran O'Kane (2 points) Aidy Bradley, Aidan McElhone (1 point), Declan Lavery (1 point), Aidan Keenan (2 points), Niall McNicholl (6 points), Paddy Henry (1 point), Conor Scullion (3 points), Martin Heaney (1 goal.1 point) and Ordhan Mullan. Subs used: Joseph O'Kane for Ordhan, Colum Lavery for Ronan (black card) and Ciaran Young for Paddy.
We've one more game to go in the league, a home fixture against Desertmartin. However, no matter what the result is it will not affect the fourth place finish so sadly no play-off place this year, a target for next year perhaps. All thoughts turn to the championship, quarter final draws to be made next week and matches to be played at the end of the month.

Our Camogie U8s and U10s took part in the Glen blitz on Saturday morning. The under 8 girls won all three games in there section and got through to the semi-finals. The girls were narrowly beaten by the stronger Slaughtneil side. The management were really proud of the performance and skill shown on the day. Well done to Aoibheann, Katie Mc, Keeley, Anna K, Aoife, Caithlin, Katie C, Fiona, Cliodhna, Meave, Grace and Hannah. The under 10s also participated in the blitz and did very well against strong competition. Well done.
Good luck to the senior camogs who take on Slaughtneil in the first round of the championship on Friday 15th August at 7:30pm at Ballinascreen. All support greatly appreciated.

St. Malachy's Castledawson U16 camogs were defeated in the semi-final of the championship at a wet and windy Kilrea by a determined Lavey side. Castledawson had to field without a number of regulars due to holidays and Peter Henry and Catherine McAteer were forced to rejig the team. Due to the terrible conditions both teams found it difficult to get settled into the game. Castledawson were quick off the mark though and the Lavey keeper had to be on her toes to save from full forward Claire Kearns and corner forward Shauna McAtamney. Lavey started the scoring with a point from corner forward Eilish Toner and she followed quickly with a goal. Senior player Megan Kearns was getting through a mountain of work in midfield and when her sister Claire got on the end of the ball in the square she slotted it neatly past the Lavey keeper. At the other end goalkeeper Anna Coogan and defenders Anne McCoy and Bronagh Robinson were doing well to keep the Lavey forwards at bay but neither could do little to prevent Eilish Toner from scoring another point from play and Lavey's Claire Madden scoring a point from a free. Megan Kearns drove forward for a point of her own. The Castledawson half back line of Rebecca Doyle, Aoibheann McElwee and Megan Doyle were excellent throughout but could do little to stop Niamh Conway and Eilish Madden from scoring goals. Centre half forward Aoife Brown played a clever ball into Claire Kearns and she scored a well taken point leaving the half time score Lavey 3.03 Castledawson 1.02. Upon the restart Lavey were first to react and Claire Madden scored a goal before Aoife Brown reduced the deficit by scoring a point from a free. The Castledawson forward line were much more involved in the second half with Erin McKenna and Cathy Hughes combining with Aoife Brown who made no mistake when she was in for a goal. Lavey's Briana Kelly scored a goal and a point in quick succession but the Castledawson U16s are a determined bunch and they weren't going to give up. A couple of positional switches in defence with Bronagh Robinson and Anna Coogan coming out the field and Anne Marie Craig taking up position between the sticks boosted the team. Bronagh confidently collected the ball at midfield and stuck it between the posts and then Rebecca Doyle played the ball to Aoife Brown for her second goal. Lavey pressed forward in search of a three pointer to close the game out but they found Anne Marie Craig in fine form in goals pulling off a number of fine saves. In the end they ultimately pulled away with Niamh Conway, Aine Magill and Clare Madden all scoring a point each. Final score Lavey 5.06 Castledawson 3.04. A disappointing end to the season for this young Castledawson side as they and their management team have put in a massive effort this season but with sound performances from senior players Rebecca Doyle and Megan Kearns who both worked tirelessly throughout as well as Megan Doyle, Aoibheann McElwee, Aoife Brown and Anne Marie Craig giving 100% effort the management have good reason to look forward to next year. Team and scorers: Anna Coogan, Zoe Dunlop, Bronagh Robinson (0.1), Anne McCoy, Rebecca Doyle, Aoibheann McElwee, Megan Doyle, Megan Kearns (Capt.) (0.1), Erin McKenna, Anne Marie Craig, Aoife Brown (2.01), Emily McCann, Cathy Hughes, Claire Kearns (1.01), Shauna McAtamney, Niamh Wilson and Eve McFarland.
