Senior Football: On Saturday afternoon our seniors travelled to Banagher for the opening round of the 2014 championship against Doire Trasna. The game was played in terrible conditions, with incessant rain and strong breeze. Glen were slow to settle in the opening period which was in part due to playing against the breeze and against a blanket defence. Doire Trasna kicked some fine scores however Glen went in at the interval leading by three points on a scoreline of 0-08 to 0-05. Michael Warnock, Mark O'Donnell, Stevie O'Hara, John McCamley and Ciaran McFaul being the first half scorers. After the break Glen got into their stride and scored at will and grabbed three goals from Stevie O'Hara, Mark O'Donnell and Ryan Dougan. Final score Glen 3-15 Doire Trasna 1-05. Well done lads. Next up is an important league fixture versus Faughanvale on 10th August.

Under 14 Football: U14 Championship match report by Brian McKenna: On Tuesday evening our U14 team made the short journey to Emmet Park to play Swatragh in the Quarter Final of the Championship. This was a game that could go either way, and it was Swatragh who made a blistering start by raising the green flag in the first minute of play. Indeed if it wasn't for Caolan Convery's astute goalkeeping, the Swatragh men could have scored more goals within the first five minutes. Glen didn't settle into the game for ten minutes when some great through play from the defence by Caolan Bradley and Jack McGilligan to the forward line, where great passing by Ryan Gallagher, Tiarnan Higgins, Ethan Doherty and Eunan Mulholland was finished off exquisitely into the net by Odhran Craig. A couple of points from the very dangerous Swatragh full forward line saw them take the lead again. Glen then got into their rhythm, with a point being added by Ciaran Clingan and the in-form Alex Doherty taking some nice scores including a well worked goal following a pin-point pass from Odhran Craig. At the break Glen had a five point lead. After the break Glen played better football, with the defence working well as a unit and moving the ball quickly up to the midfield of Seamus McKenna and Ciaran Clingan, who in turn passed to the eager half forward line of Ethan Doherty, Ryan Gallagher and Alex Doherty. Some great movement by the forward line of Eunan Mulholland, Tiarnan Higgins and Odhran Craig made it possible for the brilliant runs of Alex, to get rewarded with some well taken goals and points. With ten minutes left Glen were awarded a blatant penalty, which Alex calmly slotted home, giving the Watty's a nine point advantage. It was at this point that Swatragh got a second wind scoring three goals and a brilliant point to give the hoops a lead by the narrowest margin. Swatragh could have had another goal only for some brave defending from John Convery, James Turner and Cathair Glass and a superb block by Jack McGilligan. Play ebbed and flowed for the next couple of nail biting minutes, then working from their own 21yard line the young Watty's started to build, showing great character and not panicking. They passed up field through Conleth McGuckian, Eunan Mulholland and Tiarnan Higgins, who moved the ball onto the speeding steam train that is Alex Doherty. Alex rattled the ball into the net to give the Watty lads a win by two points. Well done to all for a very entertaining victory. Team: Caolan Convery, John Convery, Caolan Bradley, Cathair Glass, Conleth McGuckin, Jack McGilligan, James Turner, Seamus McKenna, Ciaran Clingan, Ryan Gallagher, Alex Doherty, Ethan Doherty, Odhran Craig, Eunan Mulholland, Tiarnan Higgins, Euan McKenna, Francis McKenna, Shea Convery and Eoghan McGirr.
Minor Football: Glen travelled to Dungiven on Monday evening for the opening round of the Minor Championship. Glen started without a host of regulars due to injury. Faughanvale opened the scoring, however Conor Glass soon replied. After a settling in period, Glen attained the upper hand and kicked some fine scores from Danny Tallon, Tiarnan Flanagan and Tommy Mullan. Half Time score Glen 0-06 Faughanvale 0-02. In the second period Faughanvale upped their performance and came back into the game with a series of points. With the game in the melting pot, it took fine scores from the experienced duo of Danny Tallon, Cathal Mulholland and Tiarnan Flanagan to settle the nerves and to gain victory on a scoreline of Glen 0-09 Faughanvale 0-07. Next up is a quarter final fixture with League Champions Dungiven.
Senior Camogie: The senior camogs hosted Derrylaughin in their penultimate league game of the season on Wednesday evening. The girls started slowly but then got into their stride and as the game went on they took control. The introduction of Niamh McKenna and Charlotte Burke had a positive effect on the game and Glen went on to a comfortable victory on a scoreline of Glen 3-12 Derrylaughin 1-9. Top scorer on the night was Aileen McKenna with 1-8, her goal coming from a penalty. The last game of the league is on Thursday evening away to Newbridge. Glen are the only team to beat Newbridge this season, a one point win and they meet in the first round of the championship so the success of season will depend on the next two games. Good luck to all involved in the forthcoming games. All support would be greatly appreciated.
Under-16 Camogie: Our Under16's played Slaughtneil at Lavey in the championship but were forced to field without a few strong players due to holidays and injury. Slaughtneil were the hot favourites for this game and proved too strong for the young Glen team. The girls worked hard throughout the game and never gave up but couldn't match their opponents who went on to a comfortable victory. Hard luck girls and keep us the good work.
Gaza Appeal: Thanks to all those who supported our GAA Gear for GAZA appeal. We had a brilliant response, with a special word of thanks to our senior and reserve football squad. The clothing is being shipped to Gaza on Monday and is very much needed.
