Under 14 Football: Good Luck to our U14 footballers who will take on Swatragh in the U14A Championship on Tuesday 29th July in Slaughtneil at 7.30pm. Having won the prestigious Buncrana tournament in some style earlier in the year, the U14s got off to a slow start in the A league with one win over Kilrea and three defeats to Magherafelt, Steelstown and championship opponents Swatragh. After a more spirited performance and narrow loss to Lavey, the lads finished their league campaign in very impressive form, with gutsy and well-deserved victories over Bellaghy, Dungiven and Ballinascreen, to finish fourth in a very competitive league.
This group of players have made great progress over the past two seasons and having trained hard since November last year, are now beginning to show that they can compete against the best in Derry. Jack McGilligan and Alex Doherty have been in excellent form leading from the front over the past three games and have been well supported by goal-keeper Caolan Convery, Caolan Bradley, Conleth McGuckian and John Convery in defence, Sean McCloskey and Seamus McKenna in midfield as well as forwards Eunan Mulholland and Ethan Doherty.
With favourites and runaway league winners Steelstown already out of the U14 championship, any one of the remaining teams is capable of taking the title. Let's hope that all the lads can take their current form into the championship and produce another committed performance to see off a confident Swatragh team. Please get along and show your support for these dedicated young players.
