Derry are breathing a collective sigh of relief after Sean Leo McGoldrick's ACL fears were allayed over the weekend.

Experienced wing back McGoldrick was forced out of Eoghan Ruadh's club clash with Ballinderry on Wednesday night with a knee injury and underwent a scan to determine the full extent of the problem.

There were concerns that he may have become the latest intercounty footballer to have suffered a dreaded cruciate ligament tear but the scan has come back clear and the player is now in line to appear in this weekend's national football league final against Dublin at Croke Park.

Oak Leaf PRO Dermot McPeake told The Belfast Telegraph: ""I don't mind admitting that we were very worried. We honestly thought that his chances of playing against Dublin had gone but now it looks as if he will make the cut all right.

"It's nothing serious and that's tremendous news because obviously the feeling is that our manager may not wish to change a winning combination."
