Camogie News

There will be no camogie training on Easter Week. Training resumes on Thursday 1st May at the usual time 7pm to 8pm in the Backrow. A

Any person interested in doing the GAA Goldmark award or needing hours for this award is quite welcome to come along to the underage trainings to help out or give your names to Mary McGuigan or Martina McGillian. Registration is now overdue for all players.

The U16s had a good win over Castledawson at the Club last Monday evening in their first league match.  Screen led from the beginning and dominated all areas of the pitch, winning comfortably at the end.

The Seniors were also in action against a very strong and determined Lavey side who had the home advantage. The conditions were perfect for Camogie and the screen girls took advantage and played some excellent Camogie . After a hard fought match with some great goals from both sides, Screen ran out deserving winners.  Next up is Ballycastle at Ballycastle on Wednesday night.

The juniors took part in a nine a side tournament on Sunday. More details next week.

The Minor Camogs took part in a Derry tournament on Sunday at the Club. The Screen girls met Glen in their first match and won it easily. They then beat a strong Lavey side and drew with Castledawson. In their last match they beat NaMagha to take them into the semi-final stages. In this game they met a very determined and fit Slaughtneil team. With the wind at gale force, it was very hard to score accurately so at half time it was 1 point each. The second half started much the same with Slaughtneil upping the pace and our goalie Eimear had to make a few good saves to keep us in contention. With the clock ticking away and both teams even, Cathy McKenna got her hurl to the ball and hit a powerful strike in the net to score the winning goal!

The girls now meet Newbridge in the final in a few weeks time so good luck to all. Team; Eimear McGuigan, Ellen Kelly, Roisin Donnelly, Niamh Duggan, Una McCoy, Caroline Rafferty, Niamh Kelly,Shannon McGillian, Cathy McKenna, Sinead Armour and Rachel McAllister.

Congratulations
Well done to all the lads involved in the Derry Senior Football Panel on their great result against Mayo and best of luck against Dublin in the Final.
