Looks like lomans leading the way again can't see anyone stopping them
Inter; hard to look past Shandonagh and Rochfortbridge at the moment I know it's early yet

This year more than ever before, form in March is irrelevant. The championships are won in September/October. We are closer now to last year's county final than this year's. I wouldn't bother debating this until July.

Well said Jamsie. Playing well at this time of year wins you nothing.

Understand the championship point but some clubs may be prioritising the League for promotion. Many a club has failed in this regard by not putting enough effort in early league games.

Some clubs haven't even started training yet.
Long way until July yet.

Name one club that hasn't started training yet. Ridiculous statement.

The clubs with some cop-on should be starting to train now.

Who are "some clubs"?

The Wood have done a few early sessions at weekends
Cullion have not been training
Delvin hurlers have done nothing
Plunketts haven't trained or fielded a team yet

Would it not be a bit late to be starting training now with 2 rounds of the league already played?

And people wonder why hurling in Westmeath is so poor.

Championships start in July.
Watch clubs spring into life next week
Sure some senior football teams are in division 3 and never take the league seriously
There is no point in taking the leagues too seriously as they are rarely finished, are poorly promoted, have no finals or silverware and have no bearing on the championship seedings or draw

I hear offaly have first round of the club championship this weekend. No championship in westmeath til july when there will be games every week for 8 to 10 weeks between football and hurling. Surely we could have had two rounds of championship in may

Having championship in April is crazy stuff.
Why is there a need to have championship in May?

League will be run off properly in May, into early June. Some U21 championship games will also be played.
Championship then starts on 23rd July.

This is a good structure. Clubs know that they have to peak for championship in July. Allows them to properly plan their season.

U21 won't be played in June due to leaving cert! U21 is a disaster to fix! July - October is out due to club championship. December - January out with college exams and county U21. April and May have college summer exams. Difficult to fix a time that will suit. But fixing Tubberclair to play U21 championship on the Wednesday before the intermediate final last year shows the interest Co board have in the competition. Would they be better switching to U20 championship similar to county?

It is extremely difficult to fix.

One of the main problems is that there are U21 players on the Westmeath senior panel. Moving to U20 might solve this problem.
There is a six week period between the end of the leaving cert and the start of the senior championship which is an ideal time for U21. -> This can only be used if there is nobody on the Westmeath team!
