I'm torn between Tom O'Sullivan and Paul Galvin.
Love Paul's tenacious grit and fighting spirit. Tom has hardly put a foot wrong for the past 9 or so Championships.
Toss of a coin - Paul Galvin wins.

Declan O' Sullivan, one of the best players to ever play the game and he is still only 25!!

I like Tommy Griffin because he looks like myself, and plays like me, too (well that slip at the start of the final was like something I'd do..lol!). No, he's been asked to play in many different positions for Kerry over the years. He's been there since 2000. 4 All-Irelands on the field of play (what happened him in 2004?). And he can make a job of any position. He's the "man who's gonna get you outta jail in a fix"

However, in all my years watching Kerry plying their trade, if someone asked me to take any footballer (Kerry or otherwise) to Mars and explain and demonstrate the game, all its skills, and how it should be played to the Martians, the man I'd take would be Paudie Lynch. There was nothing the man could not do on the field. He mastered every skill, without ever really standing out, as he made it all look so easy. I'd say I never saw the man drop a ball or make a mistake. All-Stars in Kerry count for nothing (Connie Murphy and Karl O'Dwyer have one each) but one in 3 different positions even makes Kerry people take notice. Lynch is one of the few players ever to have done this. Plus, he was arguably Kerry's finest minor ever, scoring 2-11 from centre-forward one day against Cork.

John Egan was another favourite.

Derrymore,
I take it you're being sarcastic. All the stuff Spillane complains about in the modern game are everything he did himsdelf in his playing days. I think it would be great for the other Sunday Game panellists to trawl through RTE footage from 1975 to 86 (I know they recorded the 1991 semi-final as well) and make a collage of Spillane at all these antics. I don't mean the Golden Years video as you've 12 years of football by arguably the greatest team ever (present day team, even Ger O'Keeffe, may argue differently) packed into an hour or so of highlights. It's all glossed over. I mean in all the games. There's one great piece against Roscommon in the 1980 final where Spillane, clearly dives, possibly with the intention of getting Gerry Fitzmaurice his marker sent-off. Remember, Fitzmaurice had his number that day and had Spillane rattled. "Pat Spillane has gone down. Needlessly so. He hasn't even been hit", observed the great Michael O'Hehir, "and that's not the first time we've seen Pat Spillane do that" added O'Hehir. Perfect poetry for the incident. Perhaps I don't have it verbatim but that's the message that went out loud and clear that day.

shoulderghost - good post - always thought he was some player and will always be remembered as a true great. Back to Tommy Griffin he is a tremendous natural footballer - pity he didn't play full back in 2002 and we could have moved Moynihan out to centre half back in that match and probably have won as well.

I am watching football for more years than I care to remember Loved Offaly beating Kerryy all counties like knocking the top dog down but I have never seen a bad one in a Kerry jersey. I think of Connie Murphy surely as good as any yet he never won an All Ireland . All the O Se/Shea brigade Jerome ,Paidi , Jacko ,Barry, DARRAGH(No.1) Tomas, Marc sure you'd want a library to go through them all. Nice thing about genuine Kerry people they donjt crow too much they just point you in the direction of the record books, teams may come and teams may go but Kerry go on forever

Thanks aeroplane. Would your username be taken from another famous O'Shea? Aeroplane O'Shea played back in the 1920's.
