County Panel Cut to 26

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I read all County Panels are to be cut to 26, and Donegal had its A versus B trial today. Has the panel been announceD yet and if so who has made it and who's been dropped ?

Wee Buns, all due respect were you in Croke Park for Div 2 final ? panel was Starting 15 plus 21 now where we come from that is 36. I see in the press today 2 gone and 2 added in. Our club has a couple of boys on the fringe yet we cant play them this weekend.

You are either jealous or now very little about GAA in Donegal. Patrick McBrearty has been an outstanding performer on the underage scene in the county for the past number of years. For a 17 year old, he was one of Donegal's better performers against Cavan.

Scored 2-5 against Glenfin seniors two weeks ago and another haul against Glencolmcille last week. He is in the squad on merit and best of luck to him.

Some Premership footballers make their debuts at 16 and 17, there is no reason why age should hold him back.

@banterladhi- Seriously David Mccarron??? all you seem to do is drop his name in every conversation, he's an alright player i suppose , but he is young and has a LONG way to go!!!

McBrearty is a fine player however we do need to protect him, the amount of football he has played in the last year is serious. I wouldn't be in favour of putting him into the senior panel this year good and all as he is if it means its going to cost us down the line. Just look at the amount of games Toye (who was also heralded as a protégées at the time) played when he came on the scene. In later years he suffered something serious with burnout because of it and in the past year has been suffering from a lot of injuries too.

I agree with Break_er regarding McBrearty he is a bit young for the hard hitting move to county senior football as a wise man said last week in Glen a lad of that ages bones are still getting stronger and he is at risk of burnout also. Re yesboi why have a dig at division two football? Sure not much separates divisions one and two (compared to two and three) as was shown in last years championship do you think all county players should be division one players? and you mention McBrearty having a bad match against Cavan, the lad at that time was playing for club, county voc and Carrick voc and you are going to judge him on one bad match?

Indeed, I would echo that sentiment Beak_er. He has to be nurtured, In Jim in trust though. Would be a great impact sub, will do him no harm to experience the county set-up. This year he has or will play for Kilcar's U18, U21s and Seniors, Donegals minors, U21's and Seniors, Carrick VS, Donegal VS. Where does the list stop. Mark Lynch from Derry was at a similiar level at that age.

he is a powerful young fella and the experience of training with the county team will do him good, it is probably at least a year too soon for him yet but he is certainly a talented played and one for the future of donegal

with jim known as the baby of the 92 team. i would say that his experience of county football at a young age may have helped him and could be trying to spur on paddy to make him an even better player.
